I recognize that it will not be possible on the 3DS, but what I (and a lot more) am worried for are more games like this.

Again, I expect a DSi-style situation, but Xenoblade happened.

Why do you worry about that? It would be awesome if more large scale games like Xenoblade got ported to the system.

I thought this forum had conclusively decided that people DIDN'T want this, and this is why the Vita was a failure?

Vita wasnt a failure because it had ports, it was a failure because more than 80% of the game are ports.

Colin Moriarty from ign jinxed the hell out of the 3ds+vita. He sayed 3ds wont win with tired old ports (only ports we got were LoZ OoT + Star Fox 3D at that time) and bam.... look at the vita/3ds.

3DS has 6 ports only in 4 years.... (at least that matter)

1st Party....

LoZ OoT + Star Fox 64 + DK + Xenoblade

3rd Party

Tales of Abyss  + MH3G

Edit: it should be noted that LoZ and Star fox are more than mere ports however.

People are shitting on it just to shit on it. So you need new/other hardware to play a game. Not exactly unprecedented. It's just a "premium" version of the hardware which can play some "premium" games, not really that hard to understand.

Your 3DS's really aren't obsolete in the slightest, it's not like development stopped dead in it's tracks or anything. Everyone will still be able to play 99% of the games. Does that 1% include a game you really want to play? Get the system if it's worth it to you.

Brace yourselves..........The "new" wii u may be around the corner...

this makes me a bit hesitant to get a wii u.........

well I'll just wait for smash like I originally planned.

and don't say that it would never happen.

Pretty sure if the question was asked if they'd bring out a new version of the 3ds with exclusives last weak people would have said that would never happen.

If Nintendo was really being dirty then i would admit it but it aint true, as i pointed out in the post above.

Same people to critisize MS+Sony? C'mon thats just a very few and its from all sides.

I can admit when Nintendo is Wrong/being dirty, etc. And i try to be reasonable with other companis too.

Ex: I feel like Nintendo is one of the best with DLC, they make it so its definitely worth the purchase (looking at MK8), but unfortunately Mario Golf was definitely wrong and a rip off (at least to me) when it came to dlc.

MS just recently did something dirty, though its not like anybody cares and its pricing the Kinect at $150. Of course this is an opinion shared all over the internet as i dont personally care.

Sony awhile back had that psp go. Yes it might be different situation then nintendo HH, but it didn't allow you to play your retail games, right? PS Vita TV wont let you play some vita games as i recall. (though im looking to purchase one in the future).

I dont think Nintendo ripping people off, if many agreed then nobody would buy the N3ds, and clearly that would be untrue as we'll see in Oct this year (for the japanese).

I'm not saying that Nintendo is being dirty. I'm saying that Sony and MS never released a new version of a console that would run games that the older versions wouldn't. Let's say I've bought a 3DS two weeks ago. Now, there is a new model that will have access to 3DS games that my newly acquired 3DS can't run.

PSP Go wasn't capable of running any game that the normal PSP could. Actually, it couldn't run games that were released only in physical media. PS Vita TV can't run any game that the normal Vita can't. Actually, it can't run game based on touch and some other features. I have a Vita and when vita TV launched I knew that my now almost 2 year old device can run any games that Vita TV can and more. In these two cases, the new model is actually limited compared to the older one.

Cant disagree with especially recent 3ds purchases. But i will say this...

Which is worse?     3DS ⇒ N3DS      OR       GBA ⇒ DS

Both had about the same time (around 4 years) but GBA went straight into another gen while N3DS is in the same gen as a new revision. Difference? DS 100% stop GBA games (meaning support) and only DS Games can be played on the DS.

As for the N3DS, 3DS is still getting supported, just with an exclusive (wii port) and maybe 3-5 games down the line exclusive games. Thats it.

Is it unfair? Yes it is, but thats how alot of things go anyway and besides we dont kno wat games (if any others) are going to be exclusive. I doubt Nintendo will ignore 45mil right away, we'll see though soon enough!!!

As for the Sony comparisons, yes it is different, dont get me wrong. I just meant its not fair for those wanting a new model that cant play some/all of their already purchased software.

Tbone they're mirrored situations. The last real examples I can think of were more add ons like the Mega CD and 32X, and look what they did to SEGA's reputation.

I'm curious as to Nintendo's logic behind this decision. They have the leading selling system, though sales are massively down, but at the same time, Namco in particular seem to be throwing a lot more stuff at the Vita rather than 3DS than you'd expect given the disparity in userbase.

Could the powerboost and dual analogue built in to be try and bridge the gap and try grab some of the higher profile Vita 3rd party software? I mean Digimon etc would sure be a coup to steal back from Vita in Japan.

Their home console market is struggling globally, so they need to protect their handheld business from any and all threats. An increasingly strong Vita would be a massive threat in their biggest market.

TGS could be very interesting as far as 3rd party handheld announcements with this new hardware thrown into the mix. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Namco announce a few Vita games like God Eater 2, Digimon, etc for it potentially.

I would rather a completley new system with more than just enough upgrades to piss off people with consoles sharing the same name.

This is typical nintendo, they loev to do this kind of thing, They love nothing more than to sell consumers the same thing over and over coated with a little hypnotic "this is better than last time" sort of thing.

Well yeah.........that was a nintendo thing but every company is doing that now though.......

exactly, people are just reaching with this. many who wont admit Nintendo is being dirty and coy with this. Same people who will jump to critisize MS or Sony if they ever try to attempt something as dodgy as this.

Like you said, psp go and Vita tv are different situations, nothing to do with this, they dont have exclusive games and the basic model can still play all the games, so the one who buy them insteand of buying basic model buy them knowing what he does.

The fact is, if Microsoft releases a new X1 in 2016-2017 like some rumors say, everyone will agree to say they are disgusting, whereas it's exactly the same thing.

And according to your logic, nobody think DLC are bad since a lot buy them. Like you saw a lot spit on MGS G0 price, still, it sold a lot.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Well, you can't call Xenoblade a Wii exclusive if you can play it on other consoles.

I mean they wanted "handheld games designed for handheld consoles" not games that work better on home consoles and look much better on peoples expensive shiny TVs? ;)

EXACTLY THIS.

also this video shows exactly the confusion that the name "NEW 3DS" will create:

wich by the way is also the exact same thing i was saying on another thread

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQzcXJ2oTHg&list=UUjb0MYm5NVLktN1b6GqQzOA

I've seen this repeated too many times to let it go now. This "name" issue is being caused by an ignorance of the language in which it is called "New". The N3DS has not actually been given an official NA/EU name and won't be for months yet.

But in Japanese this is what it looks like, where the two items are distinctly different and would be like calling something "Neo" or "Nueva" or whatnot in English:

あたらしい にんてんどう 3DS LL

あたらしい にんてんどう NEW 3DS LL
