If people were confused by the WiiU, then they are going to be confused by the " New 3DS" as well! Some humans just aren't very bright!

Are they testing out the Smartphone model where the hardware is upgraded but software is compatible in both directions?

If this new system plays new games which are incompatible with old 3DS, fragmenting the userbase, that seems really risky.

Probably no, consumers who buy handhelds are actually smarter. I mean people confused the wii u with the wii but they don't confuse the DSi with the Ds. In hindsight though they probably don't care.

Well, with all these different models of the 3DS, it will definitely generate some confusion for the general consumer.

So 3DS lifetime sales are about to stall? Since 3DS is obsoleted this year! A new device without forward compatibility should be counted as a new portable.

I think "New" is clearer to a non-gamer than "U". But with that said, Nitendo has been running a thin line with all the XL, 2DS, New 3DS. Its confusing for the regular consumer i gather.

it is a 3DS new model nothing more, it has a better cpu, and wii ports are possible, but in all sense is a 3ds nwe model, is not a new system.

Nintendo is skating on thin ice. They want to release a new handheld which sells in it's own right, while not making any big announcement at E3 or something that implies 3DS is getting obsoleted. That's conflicting interests, that could both blow up.

I don't see how they can at the same time keep the 3DS platform from looking obsolete, and effectively market a new and improved New 3DS platform.
