The Bayonetta thing tho is different. People can have an impact on the sales by buying it  O.R. on the other hand was just kids dreaming and trying to fix something that didnt need a fix since it was happening anyway.

That was just damage control by Reggie. If people think that that sort of thing works then Nintendo will have to listen and survive other campaigns like this. Which they will have to do with this and other third party/ Wii U marketing fumbles.

This is true.

Operation Rainfall worked in the sense that another publisher, XSEED, picked up the rights to distribute two of the games in North America and did so. A guy from XSEED pretty much said in no uncertain terms that XSEED decided to pick up the rights based on Operation Rainfall's enthusiastic supporters, and that The Last Story is the best selling game in its history.

So yes, it did work. Just not in the manner that most people would consider it a success.
