Forums - Gaming - Why are some people defending Zoe Quinn?

Kotaku has gone out and said that the sexual relationship began AFTER the journalist had covered her game. If that's true, this all just harassment, isn't it?

I can totally agree that this is something that needs to be looked at if any wrongdoing been going on.

BUT shouldn't we be just as critical, if not even more so, towards the joirnalists then? THEY were the ones accepting the bribe and gave positive coverage (if this is all true), yet VERY LITTLE criticism has been offered their way. Please explain THAT. Why should Zoe be the one to bare this burden alone?

Well, there has been a lot of backlash to the Kotaku writer and general backlash towards all of the other men involved. The main discussion tends to fall on Zoe Quinn for a few reasons. One is because so many people choose to defend her. Two is because there is a lot of other stuff going on around her (censorship and manipulation in addition to this) to add to this whole deal. Theres not a lot to talk about when it comes to the men involved other than general condemnation, but Zoe and the people who defend her give us plenty to talk about...

Because having sex is normal and isn't a crime.

But its extremely immoral and wrong to cheat on your boyfriend/girlfriend, and prostitution is illegal pretty much most places, and this is prostitution

People cheat all the time.

Do you also have proof she sold her body for money? I don't see prostitution here.

I just see a lot of assumption based on the words of an overly obsessive ex who never had a real girlfriend before and went apeshit and did his damn best to destory Zoe Quinn.

Did you even read his entire blog? He is a nut job. She apologizes over and over, then he says he wants to work through it, then he goes back to the whole "but I still can't believe that happened", then she says sorry again and that she feels like shit, then he keeps texting her again and again asking if they want to keep the relationship together, but then right after goes back to the "but I still can't believe that happened". It's an endless cycle where he just continues to whine, whine, whine and won't leave shit alone and move the fuck on.

A guy like him, fuck, no wonder he got cheated on. It is also no wonder he went to the lengths he did after they finally called it quits.

A mature person just says "fuck it" and moves on. If you want to stay together then you need to put that shit behind you and move on. They don't go out to destroy someone like he did. He is just as much of an asshole since he actively went out to destroy her reputation. He had no place telling the man's wife what happened.

People say fuck her. Well, fuck him too.

Why are so many people attacking her when
a) people should be attacking the journalists who sold their integrity for an organisation or two. The corruption of the media REQUIRES people in the media who are willing to be corrupted to work. The journalistic media, in theory at least, is supposed to hold itself to high standards of professional ethics so that attempts at corruption do not succeed.
b) all the shit that has gone down, including the apparent You tube take downs, are directly as a consequence of the misdirection of criticism onto Zoe instead of the game "journalists". This disproportionate response is IMO sexist, and worse is the fact that people are comparing the original issue with actual sexist behaviour.

If people had discussed the core of the problem: a corruptable gaming media, instead of the vitriolic vilification of Zoe Quinn, merely because sex was involved, then things would not have gotten blown out of proportion.

Zoe certainly seems to be deserving of criticism for some of her behaviour, but some of her behaviour is reaction to unwarranted judgementalism, so is understandable, albeit not justified. And other behaviour is actually none of our goddam business.

It's not really our business who she decides to fuck. If she cheats on her boyfriend then that makes her a bad person yes, but again, it's none of our business. How would you feel if everyone on the internet found out about the skeletons in your closet?

She got a Women's Game Jam where females would suggest video game ideas amd have them made shut down, then started her own and collected money for it. It's soo much more than sex or whatever.

Ignoring Zoe Quinn for a moment... Adam Orth absolutely deserved to be fired. Anyone with his position on customer restrictions should be wiped out of the industry. It's a very dangerous thing.

Ignoring the fact Adam Orth was a dick to me on twitter once... It was his opinion and an opinion Microsoft wholeheartedly supported. He worked for MS so his opinion was likely swayed by theirs, guessing he knew the xbox one was gonna be always online.

I think its unfair to suggest he should be fired. I respect the fact he could speak out despite working for the man, and when he does, he's wiped out & slowly the few figures who speak out in this industry get fewer in number.

Except EVERYONRE is saying that gaming journalism has lost all it's integrity and credibility, and you have just not seen that at all for some reason.

Hell if its on the internet and it affects our interests, such as video games and ethics it becomes our business. She is the woman campaigning for equality, then prostitutes herself for press so she can make money out of it. Now that is completely unethical for a man or woman & its the double standards that she deserves to be called on

If the allegations are correct then yes, she sold her body for positive press for her / her game. That is prostitution.

Watch the two videos (if you havent already) if you need evidence on what the ex says.

Yes! Yet another outrageously inappropriate comparison which only serves to further distort the debate.

Yeah, let's believe the pyschotic ex boyfriend. Let us just assume she did things just as he says.
