And now all those "what ifs" and "speculations" that "didn't mean anything" when talking about EA Access are already being talked about by other publishers just a week later.

"Bonus content" (probably actually on-disc content) locked behind a subscription, betas locked behind a subscription, demos locked behind a subscription, discounts locked behind a subscription....I wouldn't doubt it if particular game modes would get locked behind a subscription.

In order to fully enjoy games, you'll have to start being subscribed to every publisher. Xbox fans: you can keep trumpeting EA Access because Sony (voluntarily, mind you) doesn't have it, so you can use it as a talking point to make the XBone look more appealing, but when all the "what ifs" start coming to fruition, don't say you weren't told so. We've already got the first rain drop for the eventual flood just waiting to drop.

Exactly. The future of gaming is under threat from tighter restrictions and publishers pushing a sales model like this. There's so many ways they could leverage this service to get people on board, and once they have secured a part of the market, expect them to be ruthless to take the rest.

The problem is people who support crap like this.EA access is a rip off when you have simething like PS+ or free demos that benefit the company and the consumer.EA was the one supporting DRM.How quickly people forget.

Around the Network

I have been gaming for roughly 32 years.

For the first time in my existence I can see an end to the hobby I once loved so dearly.

There not going to stop selling physical copies justvlike Netflix didn't kill physical DVDs.

I sure MS push EAA hard this fall, why not sell subscription cards? Together with XBLG, it is an awesome way to start your game collection on X1. Imagine getting one month of EAA and one month of XBLG when bying a new console. That's 5-6 games to get you started and you get them for an entire month :).

I'm excited about this. Imagine you pay $10 bucks for a month of Fifa, Madden, Ass Creed, Watch Dogs,Dragon Age, Child of Light, etc... and you won't even need a Xbox Live sub. Plus if you need you can always get the sub for $32 on Amazon, eBay or Newegg on sale.

My dream would be for publishers to get on board with Access and me paying $90 to play EA,Ubi and Take Two titles for a whole year.

No but you'll get half the content on the disc while the "extra features" are locked behind the subscription.

I can already see the tags on the game covers.

Subscribe to "insert mega corporations name here" for bonus levels, extra weapons, and early access DLC!!!!

No thanks.

I've had just about enough of this fucked up industry and the idiotic consumers who let these companies bend them over and shaft them.

My problem with this is I can already see there being various levels of subscription per provider, each with their own rules, costs, inclusions and exclusions. Then game content will start to get designed with the intent of carving it up to fit the delivery model for the subscription service. I know this already happens to an extent with DLC, but this has the power to be much worse.

No, but unlike movies they can lock content behind the sub. Think of buying an EA sports game and you are only able to get roster updates if you are an EA Access member.

You can try to say it won't happen, but just a week ago people didn't think we would see Ubisoft doing this so quickly. Many were expecting sometime into 2015 before we heard about this.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Oh boy, give these 3rd party publishers enough power and they will destroy this industry.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

The only ones doing that are MS and Sony. Why arent you fed up with them?
