I just don't get how the Wii U and XB1 fcking up is such a big deal, cause the PS3 turned around after 5 or more years? Why are we calling it after 6 months this gen.

As for game droughts, this isn't exactly a new thing, it also happens every generation more or less, the Wii U was carrying in the games department cause it was on its second year but without 3rd parties it didn't do a good job. And frankly the indies and remakes we got for this drought is more than we usually get during a drought which is a whole lot of nothing. Droughts aren't new:

and the only reason gamers are complaining about the drought and remake is cause there is nothing to complain about. Before this it was indies, then it was Microtransactions, then it was Ondisc DLC, then it was Season Passes, etc.

This is the best "drought" we've had in ages

It took a miracle to turn PS3 around, can't count on a similar miracle happening for Xbone/Wii U.

A drought should not be rewarded with high sales. That sends the industry the message that we're okay with being starved of games.

A miracle cause the PS3 had to turn so much around. Microsoft changed most of the policies in half a year. I'm pretty sure Nintendo can do the same although their problem is a bit more difficult.

The thing is droughts aren't new, and obviously to call the sales we have now high is an overexaggeration. These are high sales for a drought, pitiful sales if compared to the holidays. If anything, it supports the idea that more games = more sales.

Your attempt to try to turn this into a console war is misguided and unnecessary.

None of the 8th gen systems deserve to be selling as the PS4 is. Wii U deservedly suffered in its first year due to a lack of games. Now PS4 is committing the same sin, but it somehow gets a free pass cos it's the "cool" console. This tells the industry, "hey, don't bother actually giving us games, just give us an expensive box that plays PS3 games with a marginally cleaner picture and we'll be happy". I for one demand more than that.

I have to disagree. What the the success of the ps4 is telling the industry is:

1. Talk to third parties before making a console

2. Find a good balance between respectable hardware and price.

3. Support your latest console until the end of its cycle

4. Don't take anti-consumer measures

5. Don't force peripherals/expensive media on gamers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ps3 never sold as bad as wiiu or xb1 are at the moment, right? Also I was under the impression that people were interested in buying a ps3 but the price was too high. That's not the case with either xb1 or wiiu. I know I bought a ps3 the month the slim launched (september 2009?) because I didn't wanna pay any more than that for a console.

I could see MS turning things around by spending a lot of money on 3rd parties (that's not a dig btw) and with games like Halo 5, but I'm not sure wiiu can turn things around even with smash.

It seems a bit anti-consumer to me to let people run out and get TLOU on PS3 and not tell them it's coming to PS4 a year later. That's tricking people into double dipping to get more cash out of them.

Well, you're entitled to your own opinion of course, but I couldn't disagree more. I think calling that of all things an anti-consumer practise is a massive exaggeration. No one HAS to double dip. Now if they were to release exclusive story dlc on ps4 and force people to buy the ps4 version just to play a part of the story, then sure, that'd be anti-consumer.

I find what happened with the LOTR bluray edition anti-consumer. They released a blu-ray version and waited a year or something to release another version with deleted scenes. So they withheld content to increase profits.

My issue is just that I think they should have let us know it'd be coming to PS4 before releasing the PS3 version, so those who wanted to wait and pick up the enhanced version could do so.

Are there any examples of a company that has actually that? As in say "here, you can buy this or wait for the better version coming on the x of x". It makes zero sense from a business point of view.

Being good business doesn't mean something isn't anti-consumer. In fact, good business is often anti-consumer, because good business is about making the most money, and exploiting people is a very effective way to do that.

Still waiting for an example, though. You cannot expect a company to warn you against buying one of their products. Simple as that. That's not anti-consumer. It's how things work. If businesses listened to gamers they would have all gone bankrupt by now, me thinks.
