they just did this with Dreamfall Chapters though. It was scheduled for Wii U and PC and then now its console exclusive to PS4 lol

What is Dreamfall Chapters?

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

why moneyhat when you can userbasehat.

so long as ps4 continues outselling xbox 3:1 ps4 will always be the lead platform and xbox will be a port if the developer has the resources to bother or care about it. big publishers will want to support xbox because AAA is so expensive but for indies it is probably sometimes more cost effective to not give a fuck about xbox than to try and port their game.

Even if MS was beating Sony they would still be outmoneyhatting them. MS doesn't have internal development so they kind of have to.

I wonder if Bungie, From Studios and Hello Games are all good heart people that pay their workers with ice-cream.

So, don´t expect more than 3 or 4 exclusives a year for PS4.

First or third party?

So how about GTA III/SA/VC, or No Man's Sky?

There's no way to prove that Sony bought the devs out, but seeing as both were/are timed exclusives...

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Using the whole "there is no proof sony moneyhatted" argument could be used for 99% of moneyhatting that goes on. How many developers are going to come out and say "well you know we did plan on making this game for other platforms but you know (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) swooped in with a huge wad of cash and the overwhelming feeling to just release those versions later or not at all seemed like a great idea."

Many would.

Sony should say "We CAN'T buy exclusivity."

Sony used to buy up exclusives ALL the time. Why else was Grand Theft Auto released on PS2 months before PC and Xbox? GTAIII wasn't even released on Xbox til 2 years later.

And of course, Sony bought console exclusivity for Tomb Raider II and III in the 90s.

This all changed with the PS3's outrageous costs. Neat fact: GTAIV was also supposed to be timed exclusive for the PS3, as well as Assassin's Creed but Sony couldn't afford it.

If the PS3 didn't destroy Sony in terms of finance (say, PS3 used generic PowerPC processor like Xbox One and a crappier Blu-ray player) it could've possibly afforded more exclusives.

You need to brush up on your console history. Tomb Raider wasn't on the N64 because the system used cartidges as its medium. They were expensive and carried a lot less space than the CD format. The Sega Saturn was a pain in the arse to develop for. It was basically the PS3 of that generation, only that it suffered as much worse fate. Sony didn't need to buy exclusivity to Tomb Raider at all because they didn't need to try.

No, Sony did buy exclusitivy.

They could have put a (weaker) version on the N64 if they wanted to.

Sony did the EXACT same thing in the 90s that MS did today. There is nothing wrong with it.

Signing a deal =/= Paying wads of cash. Sony had a much better relationship with devs at that time, especially when the PS1 was developer friendly.

MS, on the other hand, threw wads of cash just so RoTR won't come out on the PS4. Just because the situations look similar on the surface, doesn't mean that at the core, they're the same. MS was obviously threatened by 1.) the PS4's growing userbase and 2.) Uncharted 4. Sony was not threatened by either the Saturn or N64 because they weren't doing so well. Huge difference.

And MS actually shot themselves on the foot because they inadvertently increased potential Uncharted 4 sales now RoTR no longer directly competes with it.

No Man's Sky isn't necessarily "timed". It's just coming to PS4 first

It seems like Sony have just been very helpful to Hello games: "It can take the form of financial support, it can take the form of having Sean Murray from Hello Games on the stage at E3, there are many ways to do it and we try not to be prescriptive and say "this is the template you have to follow, this is the path." "

Financial support.

That is all.
