Forums - Gaming - Are the PS4 versions of multiplats really better??

Were there differences between 360 and PS3 multiplats? If yes (which there were - and they were rarely as big as they are now), then the answer here is clear.

Please go to the site Xbox 360 vs Ps3 headtohead and watch their analysis especially the first ones and then tell me if there was any big difference on multiplats last generation.

Technically they are but the differences are so minimal it doesn't matter.

And even if they cared they will see 1080p vs 900p and say yes it is better.

I always found the resolution thing to be funny.  Show me someone who can stand at an optimal viewing distance from a TV and tell me how many lines are on that screen with consistent accuracy, and I might actually take the resolutions arguments seriously.

how many pixels does your TV have and why did you waste your money on a 1080p tv when you can't see the difference?

I can tell when something is 480, 720, or 1080.  my response didn't say anything about not being able to see the difference in the standard settings for television.  My response said show me someone who can say, by looking at a game on the screen, "oh that one is 900p" and then "that one is 784p", or "that one is 1080p".

Its not just res thats the question tho, its consistant frame rates and effects that suffer as well.

But yes some people have teles so small that resolution wont matter particularly.

I am just saying casual gamers see or hear that a game is 1080p on ps4 and 900p on x1 and will say it is better on ps4. You can't argue with numbers. 1080p>900p simple as that and even more simple to the casuals.

are you trying to say PS4 versions of multiplats are the better versions, but that shouldnt matter because the average person will only play one or the other so they wont perceive a difference?

Yes I am saying that the PS4 versions generally have had better frame rates and higher res.  No, I am not saying that it actually makes the game better.  My point was that almost every multiplat game has nearly identical gameplay.  If the framerate and small graphical differences during gameplay really matter, I would like to see it.  I've watched the same comparisons online and each time I can see the differences.  BUT, the differences are not perceptable while actually playing a game.  If that is the case, are they really any different?

It is near the end of the end....

If you care about graphics you buy PC, if PS has your favorite controller you use that, etc Xbox One, etc Wii U etc

Genuinely the PS4 multiplats in comparison to Xbox One and Wii U are better.... NOW... this is where it gets complex and insane... .

If you want straight forward off-screen play, don't care much for DLC and think last gen graphics with better shadows and visuals is your thing, then you use a Wii U.

If you like voice control, dedicated servers, and various other things that MS offers and comparable graphics to PS4. Then you go with Xbox One

If you like raw power with no extra benefit than PS+ elitism. Then PS4 is your man! Bare in mind, Sony is using the same shitty servers that they used with the PS3 (why replace what isn't broke amirite?)

Personally I never had a problem with any of the consoles. However the PS+ elitism has gotten really bad compared to before. So yeah. People have different needs and wants. What I usually tell people, don't jump ship unless you are willing to take that financial burden. As a multi-console owner I ride many ships, the party is different on every one of them.

On a side note, I could care less about resolution of a game. If the game is 1080p 60fps and complete and utter garbage then it will still be complete and utter garbage at other resolutions and frame rates. 1080p != better game, nor will it ever. If the gameplay can't hold up  then that arguement about better multiplats is invalid.

I understand that entirely.  I just find it funny that someone who most likely can't call out that the TV is only showing 900 and not 1080 lines is going to make their purchase based solely on that value.

Better than what? Other console versions? Yes.

It really depends on how hard the developer of each specific game pushes for parity between consoles. If they design the game to look the same and play the same on both consoles, then no, you won't see much difference. A good example of this is Wolfenstein. They got the Xbox version running at 1080p and at a good frame rate, then made the PS4 version identical to the Xbox version. You wont see any difference there....

For other titles, like Sniper Elite 3...they got it to run at 1080p on both consoles...but the Xbox One version suffers from screen tearing and EXTREMELY poor frame rates during actual game play.

On yet other titles, such as COD: Ghosts, they lower the NATIVE resolution that the game renders at on the Xbox One to maintain a decent frame rate during play...then the internal scaler will scale the lower resolution that the game is rendered in to 1080p. Your TV will still say "1080p" when you click the "info" button on your remote or change inputs, but the game is rendered at a lower resolution, resulting in a slightly blurrier image than on the PS4.

Developers have been actively working to minimize the differences on the multiplatform game, but there IS a significant difference in power between the two consoles, and tricks, SDK enhancements, and DX 12 is going to only make up for a small amount of that difference.

The differences will become more and more apparent as developers who are trying to get the most out of each console (on exclusive titles) do their best to get every last drop of performance out of the respective consoles. We will start to see this next year when really big exclusive titles come out for both platforms.
