Forums - Gaming - Are the PS4 versions of multiplats really better??

The PS4 version have more visual polish and/or better frame rates.

However, its not the world of difference some people make it seem like. This isn't PS2 graphics vs Xbox graphics.

The average person won't see the differences and X1 games are becoming more polished. Destiny is proof of that.

I can tell when something is 480, 720, or 1080.  my response didn't say anything about not being able to see the difference in the standard settings for television.  My response said show me someone who can say, by looking at a game on the screen, "oh that one is 900p" and then "that one is 784p", or "that one is 1080p".

way to contradict yourself.

I fail to see the contradiction.  I stated that I can see the difference in standard def, 720 def, and 1080 def.  I want to see someone who can tell me where things are between those specific definitions.

if i were to look at titanfall (without prior knowledge) i wouldn't be able to tell you it is exactly 792p but i damn well would be able to tell you it is sub 1080p.  i don't have to be able to count the exact line count to be able to see the difference and know the game isn't running at the best resolution my tv is capable of.

Oh trust me, sub 1080p on a 1080p screen and crushed blacks is something you easily spot...

Well on my 50 inch Panasonic Viera I have never seen enough of a difference in multi-plat games for me to think "damn, this thing is ugly by comparison" when playing on PS3 or the 360 last gen.  Guess when I get the X1 eventually I can see if the "inferiority" is immediately noticed.

I'm just going to inform you that your TV is the reason you can see a difference. The magical number is 42" for 1080p to be noticed in comparison to 720 and lower resolutions. If you have a 32" 1080p TV you are just wasting time in argument.

For 4k, you can't tell difference at 50" that magical number is something like 80"

So don't go in to an inferiority arguement with resolutions unless you know the other side of it. TVs are the deciding factor here.

I am aware that my TV is the reason I can see A difference.  My point this entire time has been that I find it hysterical that you have people who see a game in 900p and think "that's ugly" when in reality it is a miniscule difference from the 1080p game.  As I said, I would like to see someone who can accurately and consistently call out those games and their exact line counts.  At that point, I might start believing the over-reactions to 180 lines of difference.

Ah, Sorry if I had any negative tone and I do see that.

I find it hysterical. I find it pretty funny when people bitch about games being 720p native resolution and being upscaled to 1080p. It's better than being 576p and upscaled to 1080p

Don't really care if I or anyone else can tell or not

I didn't take your tone as negative, my inflection on A was simply to acknowledge that the difference exists, but people blow it way out of proportion.

Yes. Next question.

the obvious response to your comment would normaly be - Baaaa,  Baaaa

But, I did ask the question didn't I!    :)

Whether you can tell the difference between 50-100% more power (depending on who you ask) is on you. The ps4 does have better multiplats. Where the true power shines is how much better the exclusives looks though.

Wow, did you just really say you can tell the difference between 50-100% more power?  Was this about console exclusives?

It's not the power, its the software.  THe software has to make use of the power.  Even then, my argument has never been that I or anyone else can't see the difference.  The difference is well documented in technical terms.  I challenge you to see the differnece while actually playing a game.

It is near the end of the end....

The difference between 720p and 1080p is huuuuuuuuge. Actually, playing WD at 900p was already annoying for me. It's very noticeable.

Yes. Next question.

Literally, exactly what I was going to post.

Its simple reasoning really.

If the games are virtually identical, and the only difference is better resolution or framerate, the gaps of which where much smaller last generation but paradoxically mattered a whole lot more i.e 900p to 1080p is bigger then 720p to 800p but 800p mattered a lot more, and they cost the same price, 60$. Then the better version is obviously the one that has better framerate/resolution.

Why would you willingly pay the same price for a worse version of the game, even if you claim you can't tell the difference. It seems like purposely cheating yourself. The only justification that makes any sense is if you have reasons outside of the game, such as friends on the console to play the game with or already being subscribed to one of the Networks, or you really like the Tablet, lol touch screen hacking..., other than those there is really no valid reason.

I know. I'm tired of this defense of the xbox one. Just because you can't tell the difference (which I really find hard to believe honestly) doesn't make it not better. It's because fans of xbox don't want to acknowledge that they are buying an infererior product. At this point, there's no real objective argument against the ps4 vs the xbox one. The only real defense of the xbox one now is that you like the exclusives more. And they annoying part about this defense is that people always treat it likes their opinion is the only correct one. If someone would rather play halo than uncharted, whatever, it's their choice. But what annoys me is that many people treat this situation like they like Halo more because it's just flat out better.

-snip

If you went to the site you would have seen that the difference went to such an extent were xbox 360 games played perfectly fine and had good graphics meanwhile ps3 games where blurry and had a barely playable framerate. The difference in this gen is the least pronounced of each console gen due to developers trying to reach parity.

If 720p vs 1080p are smaller differences than last gen (among other differences we see - also relative to before), then you aren't the person I should be having this discussion with.

Thus, agree-to-disagree.

I am getting confused????? Are you saying that there is a bigger difference on last gen multiplats or a bigger difference on current gen multiplats.

Anyways here is a bayonetta a game which did not only have a worse framerate on the ps3 when compared to  the 360 version but looked much worse.

Some see a big difference, some barley anything. It's all a matter of perspective, reference and standards.

I agree with you on that.  The way some people talk about it though you would think the 900p is 8-bit Super Mario and the 1080p is IMAX 3D Avengers movie.

Your example is an exaggeration of course, but to some people the difference may very well be massive (for me personally it's pretty big, but i won't actively avoid a game until we get under the 720p mark).

If you want to criticize people for expressing that they see a big difference, you should do the same to those that say they can't see any difference at all/very little.
