On the coins topic. I've read in one of the MK8 guides that every coin taken gets you a small speed boost. Also the more coins you have the more is your maximum speed. Is it true? Anybody else heard about it?
(The guide was in Russian and I'm not totally sure I can trust it...)

Still can't believe that this DLC is real, though!

The coins certainly improve your top speed a touch, you can feel the difference, but it's no where near enough to offset taking a red shell up the tail pipe, even across the entire duration of the race. Give me a peel or green shell for protection any day.

At the very least I would think that you shouldn't be given the coin item when you already have the maximum number of coins(10).

oh yeah they definitely should lower the percent at which you get the coin item (I once got it like 5 times in a row!)... and i also have no idea why it appears when you already have 10 coins

That's true, but coins don't really affect the game THAT much! It all boils down to having good drifting skills and maybe a small amount of luck

Really? You see a big difference between having no coins and 10 coins. They might not be 100% necessary to win a race, but they do help a lot.

There's a difference, but it's not really that relevant! I usually win the 150cc/Mirror races because I drift well, not because I so happen to have 10 coins on my disposal!
