Ungrateful Apple: wins a race to the bottom and complains about the prize.

An iPad does more than a video game ever will, coffee keeps a lot of people going in the morning and - excuse us for wanting to fucking FEED ourselves, Apple. It's a video game, it's entertainment. If it isn't worth 4 bucks then it just isn't. (Tbh iPad's aren't worth $600 but I digress.) |
Average price of a movie ticket: $8.35
Average price of a concert ticket: $45
Average price of mobile game $.75
You allso don't need a coffee. Caffiene isn't nutritious and its bad for your heart.

Its a self-perpetuating problem.
Low Quality -> Low Cost -> Low Budget -> Low Quality
Its seemingly impossible to break, because the market that supports these low quality low price games is huge and the market that supports higher budge games i.e gaming enthusiast aka gamers doesn't exist on mobile or at the very least is extremely tiny and overwhelmed by the more well versed industries i.e Console, PC, Handheld.

The damage its doing to Nintendo is much more severe as its effectively alienated Nintendo from casuals and a lot of kids too. I fly a lot for work and pretty much every airport I'm sitting in, I see families with kids that are playing on an iPad/tablet/mom's iPhone outnumbering the 3DS/DS/PSP/Vita by like a 10:1 ratio. It's not even close anymore. |
While this is naturally true, Nintendo still has a much bigger turnover than any publisher for iOS.
The issue is not as much Apple's business viability, but the viability of the various pocket farming schemes that app developers employ.

REALLY?!
Who the thunk consumer confidence would be nil when you have so many shitty rip off games on a mobile market that is flooded with everything everyone wants to throw up on it. $1.99 is alot if you think/know its shit.
Its the price of succes.. 13 million ipads and 35 million iphones last quarter.. that a whooping 48 million... If a playstation/nintendo/ms/ device had such an installbase the same thing would happen.. Kim Kardeshian : Hollywood costed 3 million to make.. but they are giving it free away cause they know a small fraction of the 500+ million user will make it up. Its an easy choice for any developer when you have the option: Make a 20 dollar game and earn a few million.. Make a free game and make millions more..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)
they spend $600 on an ipad and $4 on a coffee but wont spend $4 on a game!..
why?, because the ipad and coffee are part of the hipster package, it doesn't matter whats actually installed on it, just that you have it.
As others have said: $4 is still a lot for garbage.
