It's kinda funny that you missed it, but good you found out now. It's not a big deal to me but might become one if my gf moves in some day. As far as I know all games can use it.

Yup, it's ideal for anyone with a wife/girlfriend/kids that regularly interrupts your gaming by watching reality TV bollocks every 5 minutes. Also great for playing something quickly during halftime when the footy is on and for watching Netflix in bed. One of the best features of the console imo.

To a Nintendo fan? Yes they made this very clear.

to the general consumer who doesn't pay attention to what Nintendo is doing? How did they make it clear? Besides for the actual reveal, I've seen zero commercials making this obvious. 

He just said this will be his first Nintendo console, plus, you said he's known for ripping on Wii U...you really think he is knowledgeable on what Nintendo is doing?

I can tell you that MK8, Zelda WW HD, NSMBU, DKCTF and Mario 3D World support it!
Most games do work with it, but i think not every game.... Nintendoland for example doesnt support it, because it always needs both screens.

First? You should try the 2/3ds/xl too for you second ninty console! :P

Anyway, I think most games support off-tv play. There are a few that wont like ZombiU and Nintendoland though.

It's a really great feature. I have Disney Infinity for the U, and my wife has it for the PS3. We can have both systems plugged into the same TV, and we can play separately at the same time, as well as take our figures and play them on each other's respective console. The game streams to the tablet in 720 or 1080 as well, so when the game is viewed on a 480p gamepad, it is essentially supersampled.

The range will be fine in the same room. I can also play on my couch upstairs while my Wii U is down in the basement, directly below. But it does lose connection sometimes as I am walking up the stairs with it. So I wouldn't go any further than an adjacent room.

Also, this isn't TOO practical, but you can play Wii games on it as well. The gamepad can act as a sensor bar, so you just point the wiimote at the gamepad and it works.
