Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo should upgrade Devil's Third to Unreal Engine 4

Don´t do it man, just finish the game fast and release it.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I can't speak for BF4, I haven't seen it running in person, just in internet videos. For Watch Dogs, the only graphical aspect that really impressed me was the open water simulation.

Ubisoft didn't even bother to put a water dispersion animation when the bullets hit the surface. I don't know about you but the water simulation will suck like always in the past until we can get an SPH based model like this one here.

This model doesn't simulate surface tension too but it does model particle collision properly which is a big improvement over our the water technology we've used so far.

Oh Ubisoft... XD

Okay, it looks impressive when it's not being shot at then, haha.

The Wii U couldn't use any of the nice added graphical effects of UE4 so it'd be a waste of time. New engine doesn;t automatically and magically make the graphics better.

Source?

Probably around a year ago they said that UE4 was for XB1 and PS4, and that while Wii U could theoretically use it, it'd be in the same sense a mobile phone could. Other than that, all you need to do is look at the CPU & GPU of the Wii U to see that it can't do many of the added effects like indirect lighting, particle effects etc.

Can't see the point, especially because, with the greatest respect to people who are hyped for it, and as someone who enjoyed the first Ninja Gaiden, this has bomba written all over it.

Just get it finished, budget sensibly and keep realistic expectations Nintendo, otherwise it'll be a moneypit compared to the benefits you'll get from releasing it

The thing is  the game just looks bad because of the design.

This looks shit.

This looks awesome

If your game is grey/brown  it automatically looks like shit. If the game has some fine art direction and adds some colors it looks good.

If they would change to UE4 the main problem would still be there. (sure it would look much better but still)

Someone remade levels from HalfLife2 with UE4 and they do look much better than HL2 obviously but the boring visuals kill it and IMO the Japan level from Devils Third looks better than this grey/brown mess in UE4HL2.

maybe Devil's second third/Devil's fourth  xD will use a better engine but changing the engine now would result in starting almost from scratch which would be pretty dumb.

Btw for whatever reason I was more impressed with the multiplayer mode than I was with the singleplayer mode.

Im more worried about the gameplay then the graphics, I have very low expectations for this game.

We'll see. If we're lucky it could turn out to be WiiU's Red Steel - not an all time GOTY, but fun enough to attract a small cult following. Still I'll watch from the sidelines - I'm not a WiiU owner (yet) - and see how it goes. Really though It'll be stuff like X and SMTxFE that gets me to invest. D's 3rd would he a title I'd pick up eventually, even if it didn't sell me on the system (provided it's not total crap)

But everyone knows  the WiiU is too weak to handle the real UE4!

Other than Arkham Knight, what games really are using the "real UE4"?

There's probably dozens of mid-tier games that will be on UE4 that could be ported to Wii U if that were a supported option...

My post wasn't supposed to be a serious one...

It wouldn't benefit from an engine change because they've already changed engines twice in development. The first go round they had a modified version of Relic Entertainment's engine, then they changed to the Phoenix Engine (the Darksiders II engine) and they changed again to Unreal Engine 3. The transition can get pretty rough, I think that's proven with how long they've been in dev limbo and how poor some of the sections look right now.

Also, the game looks like it's already starting to be polished up from what I saw of the E3 trailer. There are environments that look great (Yoshiwara) and environments that look like shit (Panama), and Ivan's character model looks nice and polished whereas everyone else's looks... well, like ass. It shows me that the visuals are definitely a WIP and likely due to so many engine changes and being in limbo for so long. It also sounds like they have all of the gameplay pretty much wrapped up, they just need to iron out the kinks and bugs.

I'd say this game will be in development for another 6 months or so, and we'll likely see it in early 2015. Possibly late 2014 if they really put their noses to the grindstone and do some work.

Red Steel had a cool premise and was very unique from the outset. I don't really see anything going for this. I'm just kinda miffed at the thought of Nintendo wasting money on this title and its exclusivity.
