Forums - Nintendo - Rayman on sale and platformer discussion.

To make sure of a few things I went back and played Rayman myself. The controls do make Rayman a little floaty, he's definitely not Mario. The stages seem to be designed around it though, and after a little while I readjusted from Mario 3D World. The controls aren't bad they're just different. After readjustment I could do fine. As for the speed, it varies sometimes. Some stages are definitely sonic fast. I was running from dragons through a buzzsaw obstacle course and could easily see how one could consider it a fast game. The murphy stages though, ugh. Sometimes aiding that retarded green thing is a real hassle and slows things to a halt. I vaguely remember a shield based level that was kinda fast I think, but ugh murphy.

Can't find buzzsaw world:

Sonic 2 > Sonic 3. I said it right there.

Yeah, definitely agree. Rayman Legends and Origins are by far my two favourite platform games. The lack of story doesn't bother me at all.

With Mario it's a bit different. I don't care that it doesn't have a strong story, just that it's the same one one again and again. Also, the whole stereotype of women needing saving from men. I'm sure that worked fine in the 80's but times have changed. I wish they would come up with a new simple story.

All I see in this post is "Im mad that Nintendo wont release games on playstation"

All I see is "You can't say anything not positive about Ninty". Seriously, this whole attitude that one has to be a hater if they don't worship Ninty is incredibly annoying. For your information I have a 3ds and have played 3d Land. I can play any Mario game on it I want (referring to the 3ds games, not the wiiu of course). I don't need Mario on a ps console. But go ahead and make assumptions.

Both Origins and Legends were fantastic games. Platformers don't need a great story to be good.

You are right! Sonic 3 & Knuckles, on the other hand, is much better than Sonic 2!

It seems that you cannot understand simple concepts. I've had enough of you putting words in my mouth. Do it again and I will report you. In the meantime go make assumptions about someone else. For the last time, my point is that I prefer an almost non-existant story than the same bad story over and over again. How is that so hard to understand and why do you have to make everything about Ninty?

You're always picking a fight about Sonic with me, aren't you? Darn your posts! ;)

Definitely recommend picking this up, especially at this price.

However, I do feel that Rayman Legends is highly overrated, especially by critics. Does it have great presentation and good level design? Yes. But there are flaws in the game due to its odd design that I would like to point out.

- Murphy levels. This is quite possibly the weakest part of the game, especially in single player. Many of the levels range from slow and boring to highly aggravating in single player because you can't control the player character (at least on the Wii U version). These levels feel painful to play at times, and I wish a lot of them weren't the game.

- Frames of invincibility. This might sound like a nitpick but hear me out. A standard mechanic in almost every modern platformer from Mario to Sonic to Donkey Kong is the 2-3 seconds of invulnerability that happens after you get hurt. This is implemented in most platformers so that a player can regain their footing from a hit and not die from unwarranted consecutive hits (basically so dying doesn't feel "cheap"). Rayman Legends fails to implement this simple mechanic in the game, and a majority of the times I died in that game were from me being juggled by enemies and stage hazards, so having the extra heart didn't matter half the time. There were a number of instances where I felt like I was being cheated as a result of this.

These two points really shouldn't deter you from buying the game though (esp. at $20) as it's still a great platformer. I just don't think it's as great as everyone says it is.
