I'm aware of this. But the difference is that the focus/main story is not on how those women need saving but on the nightmares coming to life (if I rememebr correctly). The girls who give you powers are a subplot.

Fair enough, I know exactly what you mean about it being light on exposition - it took me a few minutes to remember what actually happens in the game :)
As you say its such a minor element in barely counts (though I understand why women in particular might find the use of this trope irritating)

Never have been a feminist nor do I like Feminazi's at all. I also don't see the point in forcing Ubi to include female protagonists. But as for your point about 95% of gamers or serious gamers being male, I don't know whether that is accurate, but what I do remember is a study made by Ninty showing that 50% of their audience is female. I also don't care for stories empowering women. The artists can do whatever they want and i cannot relate that much to female protagonists anyway. My point is that I, personally, don't like the same plot especially when a woman has to be rescued again and again. Women are weaker and that's a fact, but to be kidnapped again and again shows a bit of stupidity. I'd rather see the bad guy kidnap one of the younger looking characters or get a spell to destroy a city. Anything but the same old story. In Rayman though you do save women trapped in cages, that's not the main story, only a part of it. The story is so forgettable that it seems like it doesn't have a story, which is fine (for me) for a platformer. |
interesting - ok then!
The main thing you save in Rayman are lums. They were never assigned a gender.
Everybody pretty much is trapped in Rayman at some point (look at the series as a whole) including Globox, the Princes etc. You have to rescue male characters too.
Rayman Origins' purpose was to revisit the original title from 1995. But those fairies give you your powers, therefore without female characters, Rayman is also useless and weak. Surely that alone would be justification to want to lock up the fairies?
Could some of them have been male? Yes, though it is a traditional view that a fairy is female in gender. (zelda etc all the fairies are female apart from Tingle who was a token character in one main Zelda game and not really actually a fairy).
I just bought this game yesterday and it's magical! Nintendo can make incredible 2D platforms, but Ubisoft can certainly keep up or even surpass them at times.
I'm very impressed with Ubisoft's games on the Wii U. They really have released some solid stuff. I just wish they continue to support Nintendo... And they need to release Watch Dogs ASAP. Most of my Wii U collection is Ubisoft games :)

Add me for Pokemon, New Leaf, and Fire Emblem, Mario Kart 8.

The teensies in Rayman legends are kidnapped by the evil teensies and their minions. You save them by running and jumping through several worlds that you access through paintings. The basic set-up was lifted almost entirely from Super Mario 64.
Nobody plays Mario for a story so I think we can all come off it, the entire argument is fundamentally stupid no matter which side you're on.

All you need in platformers is a reason to go from point A to point B doesn't matter if it's to save a princess, some bananas, to kill Dracula, to retrieve your lost treasures, to save a frog or a toad. The most crucial part of a platformer is how it plays, the story is only accessory.
Signature goes here!
sorry but i absolutely cant get too much in the rayman games controls suck as for story meh who whines about the story in a platformer
How do the controls suck? They're responsive as hell. The characters may feel floaty but that's because they are meant to and once you adjust for it you can never blame the controls for a death.

Sonic 2 > Sonic 3. I said it right there. |
To each their own... I have all the sonic games on genesis, and I just can't get into sonic 2 as much as I can sonic 3. Granted, i never play sonic 3 without sonic & knuckles locked on, because it's the other half of a complete game.
The invincibility you get with Sonic's shield is perfect for certain enemy-types, and allowing lasers to pass right through you. When I play Sonic 2, I can't do stuff like that.
That's one of the reasons I hated sonic 4 so much too. It broke tradition of adding more stages, and more abilities, and just re-imagined 4 stages from past games that we've seen a million times already. And the physics were awful.
Never really thought of Rayman as being anything like Sonic, though. It doesn't matter the speed. Speaking of that, Sonic was just fast when compared to other games of the time. It, on it's own was not all that fast. I just have Rayman Origins, and recently bought the '95 game, and rayman 2, on psx and ps2.
Sonic just doesn't feel the same at all to me. I have the older games. The controls are tight and responsive. Rayman is a little floaty. How a sonic game shouldn't be. Then there's the misconception that sonic games are supposed to be fast.
Because Labrinth Zone or Marble Zone were fast in Sonic 1, just like Oil Ocean, or Aquatic Ruin Zone in Sonic 2, or Lauch Base, or Sandopolis in Sonic 3.
