Definitely recommend picking this up, especially at this price.
However, I do feel that Rayman Legends is highly overrated, especially by critics. Does it have great presentation and good level design? Yes. But there are flaws in the game due to its odd design that I would like to point out.
- Murphy levels. This is quite possibly the weakest part of the game, especially in single player. Many of the levels range from slow and boring to highly aggravating in single player because you can't control the player character (at least on the Wii U version). These levels feel painful to play at times, and I wish a lot of them weren't the game.
- Frames of invincibility. This might sound like a nitpick but hear me out. A standard mechanic in almost every modern platformer from Mario to Sonic to Donkey Kong is the 2-3 seconds of invulnerability that happens after you get hurt. This is implemented in most platformers so that a player can regain their footing from a hit and not die from unwarranted consecutive hits (basically so dying doesn't feel "cheap"). Rayman Legends fails to implement this simple mechanic in the game, and a majority of the times I died in that game were from me being juggled by enemies and stage hazards, so having the extra heart didn't matter half the time. There were a number of instances where I felt like I was being cheated as a result of this.
These two points really shouldn't deter you from buying the game though (esp. at $20) as it's still a great platformer. I just don't think it's as great as everyone says it is.
