If Kamiya was to host the investors meeting in Iwata's place. Found this on another forum.
"Yes, hello. Why has Nintendo not made Mario for iPhones yet?"
"Do you eat shit? Use your brain!"

xD. They should have hired Kamiya just for that purpose.

I said it. Nintendo is bleeding money. All the savings of wii are being spent for wii u.

Read the blurb brotha. Somehow Nintendo still has $10 billion in cash deposits and investments/non-fixed assets. Which is apparently pretty much the same as cash on hand in 2012. They must have had a billion in investments lost since then somewhere, though, because it not debatable that they've been losing money.

But their annual statements reported over the last couple of years alone are enough to see they clearly aren't bleeding money at a fast enough rate to have shrunk $5 billion. Almost all of that is simply reinvested somewhere outside of the cash reserves.

Where did all that extra cash go?? To pay for their new HQ and Wii U?

Investments and other non-fixed assets. They lost some of their nest egg in market losses but not near that much.

This tells me that 6B was moved around rather quickly...perhaps in a potential acquisition of CAPCOM and some other studios?

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

They bougth the yamauchi assests back for 1.1 bil, and with abenomics, its wiser to put your money on overseas.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Nintendo spent 6 billion in two years?

I'm going to parrot myself a lot in this thread...

Investments. Cash in the bank gets you some return, but if there are better investments elsewhere it's wise to spend the money and gain some short term assets.

As others have stated, they have:
- ¥474,297 million in “cash and deposits”
- ¥320,918 million invested into short-term investment securities

Both of those numbers combined come out to about $10bil...I don't know the exact details of what they had back in 2012, but they still have a lot of money.

So what? According to Yahoo finance,

Apple has 6 month average current assets of $75 billion, http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bs?s=aapl&ql=1
Microsoft has 6 month average current assets of $107 billion, http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bs?s=msft&ql=1
Sony has 12 month average current assets of $41 billion http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bs?s=SNE&annual
And... according to Nintendo's Annual report, they have current assets of less than $12.7 billion http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2013/annual1303e.pdf (page 24) And total assets of $15.4 billion. In other words, Microsoft could buy Nintendo 6 times with just current assets.

What's your point?

These companies are hardly comparable in scale. Nintendo is a gaming company, not a computer giant. Do you think the gaming division is responsible for $13 billion of MS's current assets?

Hopefully the decrease in cash on hand is because of recent purchases, that new head quarters and R&D.
AND not because of all the lawsuits they have been fighting against......

It's probably not even half of that.
