Forums - Nintendo - That lack of third party support is good for Nintendo

It's good in the sense that Nintendo should now know that they can't trust in what third parties say. That should make their next system something that isn't a piece of trash. Iwata already said as much, Nintendo plans to redefine video game platforms. Since third parties are all about maintaining the status quo, Nintendo's plan means as much as not sucking up to third parties. Good.

Honestly i agree with this. The intransigence and double-talk third parties went through from the early Wii U to how they actually supported Wii U, combined with the Wii's success at third parties' expense, should show Nintendo exactly the way forward. Sucking up to third parties is a fool's errand: kick 'em to the curb, keep expanding the eShop instead.

nintendo thinking they can go it alone is a bigger fool's errand.

if wiiU's successor is announced and EA and Activision and Ubisoft don't have anything for it honestly how well are nintendo going to do?  do you think it could even break dreamcast's pathetic 8M?  will anyone buy a system that only has 4-6 nintendo games a year.  fuck no they won't.  a mentality of "kick 'em to the curb" is the fastest way for nintendo to be either bankrupt or third party.

3rd party runs this industry. 1st party is merely an incentive to pick which console you want to play 3rd party games on ;)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

on the contrary, the development time for Nintendo games is getting shorter and that why there are so many cheap 2d games on the system =/

If you tune out the bitter Nintendo loyalists that you find on forums, you begin to realize that 3rd party support is paramount. Nintendo paved the way for a royalty based model back in the 80s and it has been working for them since. To say they don't need 3rd party support is to say their model is mute after so long and I'm sure Nintendo's growth model and their investors would say otherwise. You rarely hear third party support problems and Nintendo handhelds in the same sentence, if Nintendo is not ruling all facets of gaming with all 3rd party support, these loyalists are not satisfied.

So far Nintendo has not shown the willingness to grow their development capacity to the point they can generally do w out 3 rd parties - to grow thier dev capacity that much would add more risk to a conservative company

Even if they Expanded capacity it does not guarantee huge hardware sales growth as they still may not be willing and or able to produce a diverse enough library on thier own

As the industry runs now- a console needs real 3rd party support

Losing 3rd party support so soon after the Wii u launch was a disaster for the wiiu and Nintendo owns that mistake regardless how much finger pointing the fanboys will do
If the Wii u is not viable for any particular 3rd party game but it is important for the system to have it then it is up to Nintendo to make it viable.

"3rd party support... 3DS".  Seriously though I can't think of any support outside of Japan for the 3DS outside of the launch year.

After of run of about 22 years.  From 1989 to 2011 (even post 3DS launch) Nintendo handheld has received much 3rd party support.

The 3DS has been around since 1989?  Holy crap!

Nintendo should tell 3rd partys to peese of, i'm only bothered about Nintendo games on their console, When the next Dark Souls comes out on Ps4 i'll get one. IF a multi plat comes out on Wii U and Ps4 i would buy the Wii U version (i think), i love the gamepad (it's married already). And why Ubisoft don't make Zombi U 2 is beyond me, 700,000 sales is not that bad. But Ubisoft say the're' holding 1 game off till they see how the U does for sales (maybe Zombi U 2).
