Train wreck said: If you tune out the bitter Nintendo loyalists that you find on forums, you begin to realize that 3rd party support is paramount. Nintendo paved the way for a royalty based model back in the 80s and it has been working for them since. To say they don't need 3rd party support is to say their model is mute after so long and I'm sure Nintendo's growth model and their investors would say otherwise. You rarely hear third party support problems and Nintendo handhelds in the same sentence, if Nintendo is not ruling all facets of gaming with all 3rd party support, these loyalists are not satisfied.

"3rd party support... 3DS". Seriously though I can't think of any support outside of Japan for the 3DS outside of the launch year.

After of run of about 22 years. From 1989 to 2011 (even post 3DS launch) Nintendo handheld has received much 3rd party support.
