I think some people are mixing up overhyped and overrated.

Grand Theft Auto - Don't believe the hype!

Pokemon.

All Nintendo games except Pokemon are overhyped and overrated.

But game i consider overhyped by others is Last of Us. its barely a game at all. its the same thing as any other 3rd person shooter. realistic brown and gray borefest.

In short you want to hate on a critically acclaimed game because its not on a Nintendo console.

Brown and grey games are most of the times better and more expansive than colourful ones.

Half life series. I honestly dont know the hype. At best its a decent series.

I agree with Half Life very Overhyped/Overated.

Totally agree. I have read trough this thread and there are many games that I agree with and many with what I disagree. Half Life is the best example for an overhyped game. Its a mediocre shooter laced with a decent B-movie story.

It wasnt even groundbreaking when it came out, it was only that all these non-gaming degenerates, that called themselves reviewers, taught it was the first FPS that got the story structure "right". Bullshit! Not nly it was not the first, it also underdelivered, making one of the most cumbersome and boring 10 hours or so of my life. I was playing the game waiting for the miracle moment to happen, after which the game will "start" and WHAM! Giant mutant levitating baby, that I actualy beat the first time.

Then came HL2, that was the second comming of Jesus. I swear, I played the game like 4 hours, and I never looked back.

Here is the ugly little truth: the only good Valve game is Portal. And that was a side experiment

What are you saying? Even if you dislike Half-Life for whatever reason, are you telling me that Counter Strike, Left 4 Dead and Dota are all bad games?

Any new Zelda game. The initial reveal hype automatically goes to 11 and stays that way until release, and the final product rarely ever comes close to it. The only Zelda that lived up to the massive hype it built up was Ocarina.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Titanfall. Most of big video games media outlets echoing each other, saying it was going to be a game changer and was hyped up to be the next evolution of FPS. A lot of talk about the game prior to launch (on forums, social media and games related websites). Game releases. One or two months later.. not much to say about it.

GTA's are also hyped (maybe a little too much). Though, I would say that Rockstar do a great job in each one, and the games mostly live up to their expectations - for people who actually enjoy them.

Super Smash Brothers (anything). Always found them rather boring.
