Im not sure you know the difference between hype and critical acclaim.

That fact that it was critically acclaimed and got the number of GOTY awards it did proves it wasnt over-hyped.

Quite capable of making the distinction actually. A game receiving praise and GOTY awards after its release is fine, it's just that the amount of hype that the last of us received before its release was in my mind excessive.
