I always consider what the game tries to be if I think about how bad it is. Sonic 06 tried to be the new, cool, stunning, next-gen Sonic and failed. It's pretty much the cause for the recent trend of changing how Sonic plays all the time. Sonic Spinball? Meh. It didn't try much anyway.

That makes sense. Really interesting way of thinking about things!

The thing is, there's games out there that are barely playable yet they're never brought up in these discussions. If I make a game right now that barely plays right nobody will call it the worst game every created because there's nothing behind it. E.T. Isn't the worst game ever created in terms of how it plays but because of the story behind the game there's quite a lot of people who still consider it to be the worst game ever.

That, and no one can talk about the worse ones because no one bought them!

Sonic 06 wanted to be Sonic Adventure 3 HD, instead it killed any chance of ever seeing 3D platforming Sonic again, effectively burning the entire previous 6th gen and late 5th gen Sonic.

although I haven't played the game I've heard that it was actually a fairly decent game for that time at least, but I think people hate it so much because it almost killed gaming.

Indeed. And I made a typo in that sentence.. Fixed it now.

This. I bought a used GameBoy as a kid, it was my first console, and I got this game with it. I hated it right from the beginning. You have to collect 13 items within a time limit and I never made it past the first level.

Romancing Saga on the PS2. Even now I remember how much I hated that game. Nowadays, thanks to aggregate review sites, it's pretty tough to pick up a really bad game without knowing.

Funny story, I thought Super Man 64 was a pretty cool game when I was a kid, and then I found out it was the worst reviewed game ever, talk about a shocker in my teen years.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.
