Two days ago I had the chance to play two matches of Splatoon. One thing up front it was definetely not the ideal enviroment to play it in, I wasn't familiar with the conttrols and haven' t really had the chance to check em out before I got thrown into the game.
The camera can be controlled in two ways, via gyroscope and right stick. First game I played with the gyro controls and it controlled super awkward, one can imagine that this is not the ideal way to control a twitchi third person shooter. The next match I changed the controls to stick controls and it was a bit better bit still not precise enough, the controls are too loose and don' t feal tight at all. Which is unfortunate because, you don' t just have to paint the ground and the walls but, kill your enemies as well. There is no radical to indicate what you are aiming at so precise controls would be nice because you have to aproximate what you are shooting at, plus the ammo is not infinite and gets reloaded by diving into the color.
But what I liked about this game is the potential depth, if a team manages to work well together this game might be just as fun as any other competent Third Person shooter. I like the concept of having to paint the enviroment insted of killing your enemies, altough I am not sure if this will be the only mode. It is really hard for me to say how much fun it will be in the, because I had only two games both of which lasted 3 minutes so who knows how much fun the final product will be. But for now I really dislike the way it controls.
