Nintendo 1st party looked great. Zelda U looks like a system seller, trouble is it's 2015. The release calendar will be kind of barren without 3rd party.

I was very critical of Nintendo's ability to make modern looking games, but this Nintendo Driect cemented they are excellent at making 3D games.

No way iwata has got to go. Wii U would be DOMINATING if it had the power instead of the gamepad that no game uses =x

Actually I meant which Squaresoft games did they bring back to Nintendo...

Only Chocobo Land and FF Tactics...  And then Square Enix.... Not such a big win then.

If Iwata never patched things up, who knows if Square Enix would be making games for Nintendo or not.  Yoichi Wada, former Squaresoft president became Square Enix's president after the merger.  So yes, those were the last games that Squaresoft as a company developed for Nintendo, but what about what was developed as Square Enix?  Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6 Advance, Final Fantasy 3 DS, 4, Dragon Warrior 4, 5, 6, 9, Bravely Default, etc?

I honestly wouldn't have minded if Iwata never got in contact with Squaresoft to fix things, because then we might have had more games with the quality of Crisis Core than FF4DS.  Can you imagine FF4 PSP having graphics closer to Crisis Core but in a more fantasy style than the pathetic graphics we got with the DS version?

If the Wii U's dont fly off the shelves, Reggie is going to give Iwata a Fils Aime.

Shareholders can still vote how they vote, and then the board might have to bump Iwata just to save face. That's ALL it would be though, because the next 5 years of the company would all be decisions Iwata made, for one, and secondly there's no-one on the board who actually thinks differently than Iwata as far as we know, since they're all either holdovers from the old Yamauchi days (and those guys are too old to be president) or they were handpicked by Iwata for board membership.

I think the Mario Kart sales result could be enough for him to squeak by on shareholder confidence this year, then hopefully he makes good on that operating profit forecast for next round.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Iwata needs sales to be saved, not enjoyable E3 videos. This Christmas will be telling, but if WiiU and 3DS get on track to beat FY expectation at all and Nintendo keep projecting profit then I'm sure Iwata is safe in his seat another year.

I'd be kind of interested in newe managment with a new system, though. because relationships with other companies need to be vastly revamped.

I was trying to make a joke at Square Enixs expense about them being a mere shadow of Squaresoft and not worth bothering with...

Even though Square Enix have done some games for Nintendo now another CEO could have got Square Enix back on board as well. Not only that but if it was someone better than Iwata maybe they would have all the games (full, not gimped versions) from other publishers such as EA, Activision, Deep Silver etc.

Iwata really doesn't have anything to do with the gimped Wii U versions, just like no one at Sony has anything to do with the gimped PS3 versions of several games.  Skyrim, Dragon Age Origins, Bayonetta, Dead Island, etc.  These games were developed for the 360 and then received shoddy ports.  This is when the PS3 had millions and millions of consoles sold, while the Wii U is still under 10 million.

If developers were still going to create crappy PS3 ports when the PS3 had upwards of 40m+ at the time and not too far behind the 360, do you really think that those same devs bother with the Wii U under 10m compared to two other consoles at 160m?

Iwata is one of the people who had a hand in developing the Wii U console, along with many others I'm sure.  That's the only thing you can really fault him for.  Everything else isn't his fault.  No one was complaining when the Wii was doing well despite no one supporting the console unless it was with shovelware downgrades.

The lack of marketing was his fault.

I agree with the first part of this. A good E3 show is most likely a blip to shareholders compared to sales and profit.

Depends on the sales. If the Wii U continues to sell badly and Nintendo report a loss again then he should certainly go.
