This.

I doubt Nintendo is as doomed as people thought it was; they've showed their hand. But will it entice casuals and PS4 and Xbox One owners to get one? We will see...

I don't think his job was ever in danger as much as many would have you believe.

I was trying to make a joke at Square Enixs expense about them being a mere shadow of Squaresoft and not worth bothering with...

Even though Square Enix have done some games for Nintendo now another CEO could have got Square Enix back on board as well. Not only that but if it was someone better than Iwata maybe they would have all the games (full, not gimped versions) from other publishers such as EA, Activision, Deep Silver etc.

Iwata really doesn't have anything to do with the gimped Wii U versions, just like no one at Sony has anything to do with the gimped PS3 versions of several games.  Skyrim, Dragon Age Origins, Bayonetta, Dead Island, etc.  These games were developed for the 360 and then received shoddy ports.  This is when the PS3 had millions and millions of consoles sold, while the Wii U is still under 10 million.

If developers were still going to create crappy PS3 ports when the PS3 had upwards of 40m+ at the time and not too far behind the 360, do you really think that those same devs bother with the Wii U under 10m compared to two other consoles at 160m?

Iwata is one of the people who had a hand in developing the Wii U console, along with many others I'm sure.  That's the only thing you can really fault him for.  Everything else isn't his fault.  No one was complaining when the Wii was doing well despite no one supporting the console unless it was with shovelware downgrades.

these are some good points especially the last. but to be fair what could they have supported the WIi with?

i doubt it, it can stave off xone maybe, but PS4 has its number and lets be real its still missing games like Batman, SW battlefront. GTA, AC unity, Destiny just to name a few. those games MATTER no matter what some might thinkg otherwise
