Forums - Nintendo - I like that EAD Tokyo is doing something low key (Captain Toad)

I'm interested in it but still don't like that Toad is the main character.

Is this a troll thread? I don't just mean the OP, but the entire thing here. I see numerous people who derided Super Mario 3D World for not looking like an overkill budget game just one year ago and are now happy that the same studio is pumping out a spinoff of the same game. So SM3DW was apparently a game beneath EAD Tokyo's worth, but Captain Toad is fully supported by their fans.

Crazy.

I was never deriding 3D World, so my conscious is clean !

I think the big part of EAD Tokyo is developing Super Mario Galaxy 3 for Nintendo's next handheld (fusion) + possibly Wii U (multiplat?) for 2016.

2015 seems pretty full.

Aren't they just reskinning Super Mario World 3D?

Not trolling BTW, this a genuine observation. It looks like something they through together in the last 6 months using 3D worlds assets.

A main line Mario game needs to spare no expense.

A spinoff doesn't need to be held to the same standard, in the same way that I don't hold the Wii U to the same graphical standard as a $3000 gaming PC.

So what? EAD Tokyo is still wasting their talent on a puzzle game.

Not if the puzzle game is awesome.

Also, during game development, there are typically cycles where certain staff is needed more than others. The level designer staff could just be making this game while they aren't needed as much for whatever other projects are going on. As others have said, this is likely being worked on by a fairly small team and it reuses many of the assets from SM3DW, so this game shouldn't be eating up much of their time.

However, I was never one of the ones to complain about SM3DW, so your offense isn't really directed at me

It does look awesome. Also, it shows that Nintendo listens to their fans (as the entire conference showed). People demanded a whole Captain Toad game, and they get one. Who can complain about that?

Hahahahaha. You must be new to the internet.

I agree. I will never get over the fact that Captain Toad's game is not 3D World DLC though!

It's definitely awesome that they're making this game as many people myself included wanted it, but I still don't like how they showed off no new full $60 value games.
