I would welcome a female Link if it meant opening up new gameplay possibilities and bring in new plot tropes. I would strongly welcome other playable characters. I've always wanted a Zelda game (developed by Nintendo EAD) where the titular character is actually playable and kicks her own ass with the press of your buttons, not just a plot device.

Therefore, if this version of Link is indeed a female, I welcome her with open arms.

Maybe he'll leap between male link and female link the way Link went from man to boy, man to wolf, or man to tiny man in past games. I like to wear high heels and pretend I'm my own mother. As long as the game is good, it shouldn't matter. In the past, Link was always a hero but he never seemed to have any romantic relationship with Zelda. He doesn't speak. Re-skinning him wouldn't be very hard.

I can rest easy knowing, at least, that if Nintendo gives me a female Zelda protagonist she at least won't be overly sexualized and they won't be making me stare at some swaying set of big pronounced buttocks in spandex all day while I play.

I'm down with the female if she looks not too far from the trailer. I think that would be a badass female and remind me EVEN MORE of a Ghibli movie.
But still, that's not a girl in the trailer.

I wouldn't be surprised if we never find out if it's a girl or a boy.

Because if that's the case, then to me it comes across as very cheap and gimmicky. Not just in terms of design, potentially, but in terms of how the reveal was handled.

I don't want a female Link, I want a playable Zelda.

After all, it's her own damn legend, this Link kid just keeps crashing the party and stealing all the attention.

Maybe they plan on giving people an option of male or female, character customisation could be some of the skyrim influence thats been thrown about. It would be very weird if the main character you play isn't link at all...

Most likely answer though is that its just normal old Link and he looks a smidge girly in this art style.
