DK might of had a terrible start, but it'll easily hit 1mil lifetime. I think it'll be between 1.5mil-1.6mil when its all said and done :-/

It might ultimately struggle to the 500k level, though I'm probably being optimistic.
As for being a flop, I can't say without knowing how much it cost. We also do not know how much financial support was supplied by Nintendo.
However, the game looks really pretty, which probably means it cost a lot to make. At a random guess, I'd say 750k units would take it out of "flop" status and into "eh" status.

If it cracks 700k lifetime, it can't be considered a flop.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

So the developer gets nada? I think that pie is missing a slice. |
Could but it's not necessary because the publisher (Nintendo) already paid and still pays the developer (Platinum Games) for their work.
Therefore for every game sale the publisher gets the whole $27 slice since the devs were already paid.
Now there could be some contractual bonus involved once the game broke even, but in most cases that wouldn't happen since most studios are owned by their parent (publishing) company.
Also advertisement could be included as well and would reduce the slice of the publisher side even more.
The full Bayonetta 1 game being included will help it a lot.
I LOVE ICELAND!

Assuming it sells that at full price and not after one or several price cuts. Also even then the dev budget doesn't include the ad budget, so that could dramatically change things as well.
OT: I'm going to differentiate bomb and flop in this case using the financial aspect. Bombing would be under ~500k lifetime, flopping would be under 1m lifetime.
I think it needs over 800k.
But this is Nintendo's money so who cares XD
They have plenty in the bank.
