They both are the same imo, i think vita though is very lucky as if it werent for third parties it be dead.
Ironically WiiU+Vita are in the same situation but from opposite things :0

Because the Wii-U can still slaughter the Xbox, and even if the stars align, fight the PS4 to the bitter end... The Vita isn't gonna overtake the 3DS.

Sony has certainly almost give up on the vita. While with the Wii U, at least Nintendo is willing to fight for it, and they have the fans backing up the system to defend it.

The Vita is not a console...it is a hand held mobile device. That's like comparing a professional baseball team to a professional bowler and saying the baseball team isn't in bad shape because the bowler is doing worse in a different sport. The reason there are so many Wii U doom threads is because unlike the Vita the Wii U is officially dead. Nintendo is done with it. They are coming out with a new console and will be stopping support of the WiiU. The same can't be said for Vita. Ya don't see Sony coming out and saying, yeah sorry you are all right we promised a better console and failed to deliver so we'll be canceling the VIta and will be bringing out a new one with better hardware. It's hilarious the lengths people will go to in order to try and bash Sony. According to your logic my tablet is fookin doomed because my PC is doing amazing.

New here, huh? The Vita being doomed was a hot topic here for a long time. Many Nintendo fans got their kicks in.

Then the Wii U was released.

Vita failed  before it was invented.

Yea that's exactly what he does. People here sure are bitter over Sony.

The least they could do is keep it in the same league. You wanna say Vita is doomed becuase 3ds is doing amazeballz. That's fine, that's at least accurate and a fair comparrison. Comapring it to a console tho, that's just desperatly depressing and sad. There are lots of reasons to defend the WiiU, the Vita is not one of them. Comparing them just makes all Nintendo fans look really really bad and only puts Nintendo in a really bad light. Much like hardcore Xbox fans put MS in a bad light with constant trolling and mentally unhealthy behavior. We are all seeing how that is turning out for MS this gen. Blind arrogance takes its toll on public opinion. 

This is an interesting school of thought. Never saw things this way. Thought it was all about MS's DRM issues and generally perceived anti-hardcore gamer posturing that is dragging the XB1 down.

That was a large part of it sure. However around the time of launch, even now you couldn't go anywhere online without seeing groups of hardcore xbox fans just tearing into and trolling people with terrible arguments and just plain vitriol and anger. Sure there are a lot of people that had valid reasons to dislike the console at the time and for many it was the community that helped with their final decision. That's what it was like for my best friend at least. He was the reason I bought a 3rd 360 after I lost 2 to red ring. I don't regret it because we had a lot of fun in halo and gears together. We are both close to 30 now and he works as a contractor building websites. We were discussing consoles and this gen I was seriously unsure. I was wary about the kinect but figured you could turn it off and it wouldn't be a problem. I was really excited for the new Halo and the TV show tie in. I was considering getting it first but knew like usual I would own both eventually. He really surprised me and said he wouldn't be getting one period. He made a lot of good points with what they attempted to do with drm and the excessive paywall. Mind you this was before all the changes. The thing that really drove it home for him tho was the community. He said he was just getting tiered of hearing screeching 13 year olds  or trolls online ruining games and anytime he went to check out news for the next gen console he was just bombarded with even more irrational trolls flooding the comments like they were paid to. After all the changes in policy I asked him if he changed his mind because at that point I was sold. I liked the games so I still very much wanted both. He on the other hand still doesn't trust them, he felt burned by them which was understandable and he lost faith in the community. He's a lot busier now so what little free time he has now he'll play co-op games with his wife or just play a story only game.
