NES and PS1 as many have said. NES redefined games and controllers that we still use to this day. PS1 changed the market and industry really opening it up in those early days.

The Wii changed the industry, but not so much consoles which feel like ignored what it did. The Wii's revolution has been co opted by mobile industry now.

PSX It sold more consoles alone in the west than the previous gen consoles did and is really what popularized gaming in the west imo. Nintendo, SNES, and Genesis sold a lot, but they were still pretty niche in comparison to the Playstation. Playstation is when gaming really took off over here..

PS1. It changed everything.

Nintendo did CD, PlayStation just made their own version of the CD N64.

So I guess we should say that Sega did CD with the Sega Saturn.

It's hard to choose. The NES saved gaming in America, the N64 introduced true 3D games and the analog stick, the original PlayStation made gaming more mainstream, the handheld market became more relevant thanks to the original Game Boy, etc...

And the 3DS made 3D games into 3D, LOL but true.

For Handheld Systems, the 3DS clearly did the most with StreetPass & glasses-free 3D & Virtual Surround Sound Speakerphones & Play Coins & Augmented Reality (and it's in 3D) & DLC (paid, and the very first free DLC for video game systems) & free 3D Music Videos/movie trailers/comedy/etc. & other multimedia on Handheld systems like Netflix/Hulu Plus & IR built into the hardware, as to have all of the cartridge for the game itself & 100 feet local everything & Folders for games & apps & other stuff I'm too lazy to continue to get into.

Games were no longer just for kids and manchildren anymore.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” --- C.S. Lewis

Umm...............you're welcome to your opinion and all, however:

1. PSX was not the first to have 3D graphics. In fact, there were games with 3D graphics back in the 1980s.

2. PSX was not the first CD-rom system. The Turbo CD, released as the Turbo Duo in NA, was technically the first home console to have it, and PCs were dabbling in it before that.

3. This last statement almost doesn't even deserve a response. Almost. For one thing, gaming doesn't NEED to be labelled as "for kids" or "for adults". People who are hung up on gaming "being for adults", I'm sorry, have some serious insecurities/maturity issues themselves. But for another thing, gaming was "for adults" just as much as it was "for kids", as far back as the 1970s. PLENTY of adults played Atari 2600. PLENTY of adults played early home computer games (in fact mostly adults did). And PLENTY of adults played arcade games. Hell, gaming was equally "for adults" even with the NES or Game Boy. So I'm sorry, but that was just a really silly statement.

The PS1 does have a "revolutionary" place in gaming history, but not for any of the reasons you listed.
