Lol at the Wii being in the list. Yeah real game changer, that's why everyone is back sitting on the couch again and motion controls are pretty much dead.

The PS1. Not sure why the Wii is on the list or who's voting for it, but oh well, I guess some people are just that young.

Playstation 1. It attracted hardcore gamers who wanted something refreshing. Honorable mention; NES.

PS: And a small note. Wii isnt game changing by any means. Playstation 1 has a legacy. But Wii has no legacy. This is why Playstation 1 is the best choice.

NES. It established the gaming industry as we know it.

PS1 and N64 would probably be next on my list, they changed things on many levels - PS established Sony as the standard platform and made CD's the main format; while both systems pioneered polygon gaming, especially the N64 - which also brought analogue sticks.

After them it's Wii which really shook up the industry from standard evolution, even if we're seeing things move back in that direction now.

I was thinking PS1 and NES.

For me, if a revolution dies in 3 years, it wasn't much of a revolution to begin with. I believe N64 and PS2 should be out and Atari and PS1 should enter on it. The N64 didn't brought anything revolutionary aside from the analog stick (while actually the PS1 created the dual analog design that all modern controller use). The PS2 was higly succesful but it was basically just PS1 on steroids. XBox (the original) should be there too because it created the online console experience. The Odissey should make the list too.

My list would be:

1 - Atari 2600 - created the game console concept, since all consoles before it were design for only one game or variations of the same (Odissey). It created the concept of being able to play several games with one unit, multiplayer basics, movie adaptations, arcade adaptations.

2 - NES - saved the industry and defined the modern game console.

3 - Odissey - first game console, a design improved by Atari.

4 - PS1 - Popularized consoles, first console presented as an advanced electronic entertainment device instead of a toy. Created the dual analog design with 4 shoulder buttons that all companies use today.

5 - XBox - created online console multiplayer, introduced HDD to consoles.

If we can count portables, I would add the original Gameboy there in 3rd or 4th because it created the handheld market. All the other handhelds (DS and PSP included) are only more powerful versions of it.

Whichever one had DLC first. DLC/microtransactions is the future of gaming for a long time to come.
