Ah, yes. Nintendo with their repetitive titles.

In stark contrast to their competitors who keep creating new IPs like Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Battlefield, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Halo, Fifa and Resident Evil only to let them be replaced with other new IPs to keep things fresh.

Except all of those titles have a wider appeal than Nintendos. Theres nothing particularly wrong with rehashing the same titles but Nintendo don't really have the diversity to get away with that anymore.

Debatable, but regardless that is beside the point.

I do not understand why everyone looks at business side of gaming as being a "Victory" or a "Failure". Victory is defined at simply selling more units that the competition. Failure is not obtaining a victory. That line of thinking is more incline to sporting match, not the world of business.

A successful mining company will always have a few years where they struggle to break even. These years are accommodated by that fact that the profitable years for a mining company can be very profitable. Due to the increase value of Intellectual property that Nintendo owns, merely breaking even with the WiiU is a success in the world of business.

With that being I actively wonder why the finical status of Nintendo or the WiiU is relevant. The only thing that should matter to a consumer is the quality of the product and the expected continuation of support. I believe Nintendo will not make the same mistakes Sega made during its demise.

I agree. And I also doubt that the U will not sell well HW-wise when the gen is over. People have been much too quick to discount Nintendo (we know why, it's because they want Nintendo to fail), but their games have the ability to sell consoles like no other publisher. People who use the lack of 3rd party support as evidence for their belief that Nintendo will fail are standing on the wrong pillar.

The lack of 3rd party support really does hurt Nintendo though. They can do really well by themselves but they could do so much better if they had more 3rd parties on board.

Almost half the games on Nintendo consoles are Nintendo games. For almost every game bought, nearly one in two is a Nintendo game. For the U, Nintendo's publisher ratio is at 70% (over 23m units sold).

If there is less 3rd party support, the tie ratio may reduce, but in general it is not very likely to affect the overall HW sales total.

Are you actually claiming that 3rd party support won't matter on Nintendo consoles?

Yes, and I have the numbers to prove it. (I will post the full numbers for all manufacturers, portable, home and combined, next week, right before e3)

How will you prove that when Nintendo have had poor 3rd party support since the early 90's? There are no numbers you can present that will show that good 3rd support would not have improved hardware lifetime sales for the N64, Gamecube and Wii U. It is not merely coincidence that Nintendo started on their downward slope sales-wise when 3rd parties started fleeing their platform(s). There were other factors as well, but 3rd parties abandoning ship is likely a very big part of the explanation. I guess you could pull the Wii card and refer to the high lifetime sales despite poor 3rd party support but I think you will find that the Wii was an anomaly among Nintendo's six home consoles and sold mostly due to fantastic demographic aim (which also caused the rapid decline), and besides; how will you prove in retrospect that the Wii wouldn't have had any benefit from improved 3rd party relations as well?

Nintendo will win in the end when all is said and done, the Nintendo tablet will be on the horizon!

It will be hard no matter how good the E3 is for Nintendo. Hell, they could win it but they'll need more than just that even to get Wii U selling. The damage done cannot be removed easily. They need to get it out of "the line" for casuals. I believe it's too late for hardcore gamers that aren't Nintendo fans to start coming back. Could get some nostalgists by releasing games like Star Fox, but the casuals are gonna be the ones that make or break Wii U.

You do know/realize that the casuals allways make or break a console.. ? there are simply not that many "hardcore" gamers.. most of the 260+ mill. console owners in last gen, just wanna play fun games at a fair price.

But yes 2014.. (E3  and MK and smash and holiday) is the year that WiiU will have to get some true momentum, in order to be taking serius by the normal/casual gamers (the videogame player not prefer a  speciel brand or play 2+ hour a day.. offen refered to as casuals)

well Gamecube did actually have good 3rd party support in terms of multiplats and exclusives. Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, EA Sports, Need for Speed, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Resident Evil, Sonic, Soul Calibur II, Burnout, Tony Hawk, Rogue Squadron, Crystal Chronicles, Twin Snakes, nearly all licensed games.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

They failed last year. There's a lot that need to be prove in order to acomplish a decent fate for Wii U.
