nintendo just needs to focus on what they do best, making fun games for their fans. the rest of the industry can continue their fun in the hardcore fanboy wars.

There isn't a "hardcore" market for Wii U, period. I agree, it's going to be pretty difficult for Nintendo to jump back into the game with repetitive titles, inferior hardware, and a terrible lack of supporting third party developers. They just need some really convincing titles that fans actually want that aren't just rehashes of classic Nintendo.

Ah, yes. Nintendo with their repetitive titles.

In stark contrast to their competitors who keep creating new IPs like Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Battlefield, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Halo, Fifa and Resident Evil only to let them be replaced with other new IPs to keep things fresh.

Except all of those titles have a wider appeal than Nintendos. Theres nothing particularly wrong with rehashing the same titles but Nintendo don't really have the diversity to get away with that anymore.

CoD - crap

AssCreed - Crap

GTA - Muliplatform, hit and miss titles, DLC makes it better and modding community

Battlefield - Crap, more like Betafield

Final Fantasy - You mean cutscene simulator 2015

Halo - Built on a legacy of great shooters, is one. Heard the last Halo was good.

Fifa - Doesn't appeal to everyone

Resident Evil - Hasn't been a good one in years, since the Gamecube

Gran Turismo - You mean trying to be the "real driving sumilator".

^^All that is just general gamer consensus for people who frequent those crowds.

So much for wide appeal. NIntendo games have a wider appeal than all those combined. No matter where you are in the world people know what and who Mario is. All those games the other guy mentioned are only worth mentioning because of either A) they hay many many rehashed games or B) they had increaible scandals (See GTA, Resident Evil). NIntendo tends to reinvent their own IPs, adds things to make them fresh. What does a new gun in CoD do? What does a new car in Gran Tursimo do? What does the fox say!?

Now off at the OP...

This E3 isn't NIntendo's "last chance". People need to get off that train as it hasn't even been built. Doomsayers are just as bad as the paul-bearers of fate. Chances are, Nintendo announces release dates, a couple new IPs. People will get pissed that half the stuff coming to the Wii U isn't hitting the 3DS. Nintendo will likely announce a price drop of 50 dollars in August at Gamescom

How many years will get Nintendo a second chance with the WiiU? The console is great for old Nintendo fans, but I can't see them make a turn like Playstation 3. They have fantastic exclusives, but if you don't like Mario/Zelda, it will be a turn off. I'm afraid, without 3th party support this will be the worst selling Nintendo console :/

Once you entered you won't be the same anymore. A blog about life.

I think It's too late to sell enough for people to call it successful. I doubt anything could fix that huge drought in 2013.

Sales figures would appear to disagree. All those games that you think gamers don't like sell incredibly well. How did the latest Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikmin etc games do? Oh yeah, no where nears as much.

Nintendo are the best at platformers, no doubt about that. But platformers aren't the dominant genre anymore. Shooters and open world games have the widest appeal/largest fanbases now.

Shooters are casual, they appeal to the lowest, most absent minded demographic. Also according to you Pikmin is a platformer.

Since VGChartz happens to have a lovely feature of keeping track of stats. Now to compare these to the current size of the Wii U userbase in terms of attachment rate.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze: .55 million global units sold. 8% attachment rate.

Super Mario 3D world:  2.05 millon global units sold so far.  33% attachment rate.

Pikmin 3: 0.77 million units sold.  12% attachment rate.

The beauty of this, that shows the IPs still have very wide appeal making your comment pretty much pointless. Carry this same math over to the CoD, Battlefield side of things.

For CoD Ghost: 20.72 Million units sold total across all consoles, minus PC. 182.72 total consoles in the wild (Wii U, PS3, 360, One, PS4) that have CoD Ghost available for it. 11% attachment rate. Seems to be missing that "wide" appeal.

To be fair, I'll compare it also to the worst Battlefield game

Battlefield 4: Again minus PC, 8.7 million units out there for consoles. Minus the Wii U from the total, 176.52 million. 4% attachment rate. Even less appeal than CoD.

Your statement was true 4 years ago, it's not now. People want more than shooters and clearly Nintendo is going to benefit from these turn of events. Two of the biggest companies in gaming managed to f' up an entire genre, again! Nintendo offers variety no matter what platform, which includes open world games if you ever bothered to look. Open world aka sandbox games are going to be milked this generation like shooters were last generation.

E3's really don't make much of a difference to a console's fortunes, that said Nintendo should be tiring to make everything that's within their power from here on out great.

They have not had a really good E3 show the last 2-3 years, they should bring it this year.

Guys, i don't really think nintendo will put more effort on selling wiiu than they alreadly have. It really seems that they know that will not sell well doesn't matter how much effort they make, so they just want to put out the bare minimum support and have the smallest lost possible. I really think that nintendo are thinking in another things to save their bussiness, and wiiu is not one of them.

But E3 is the last chance... to iwata prove that he can make nintendo turn profit again. the board will vote in june 27.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."
