If 360 is such a failure as you keep posting, why has it already shipped 17.7 million when Xbox 1 only shipped 24-25 million it's whole life? And given that 360 ships at least 7-9 million per years, will overtake Xbox 1 by the end of 2008? Also while being more profitable?

More profitable and more sales, how is that not an improvement on Xbox 1?

It's a very simple question. And dont even forget 360 will most likely start selling MORE not less in the next 2-3 years most likely, because it's hardly even had any price drops yet! 

i think no one ever said that it was a complete failure. It obivously is doing better than its predecessor. It just still doesn't stand a chance against Sony and this round also not against nintendo.

I "hate" Xbox 360 because it represents Microsoft's anticompetitive plan to dominate consumer electronics. I don't hate plastic, metal and silicon, but the fact Microsoft wasted billions of dollars like no other company could is unfair because the money they used was due to the "Windows Tax" on all PCs you can buy (for example, Dell sells Linux PCs at higher prices than Windows ones even though Linux is free).

This is because Microsoft charges large computer manufacturers for every computer they sell regardless of whether it has Windows on it. All companies are subject to these monopolising deals and if a PC supplier pulled out they couldn't compete on price with other ones.

The result is that Microsoft gets guaranteed revenue from a product few would freely choose if software and hardware was compatible with all OSs and these OSs were choices given to the market. Microsoft also uses effectively government bribes in developing countries to get their software installed, and then when development reaches a certain level they cahrge full price and do anticompetitive deals with local PC suppliers. A good example of this is action is Microsoft paying countries (with e-mail evidence to prove it) to join the ISO standards board to vote "Yes" on their stupidly implemented, redundant and patent-infringing OOXML format. These countries have since disappeared from future votes, proving the sole reason they joined was because Microsoft said so.

The Xbox 360 represents the end result of this: you can dominate a market with cash alone. The Xbox 360's hardware is poorly made (hardware failures are common) and the software which started the Xbox brand's popularity was made by buying up studios with insane cash offers. The studios, by the way, were bought with the aim of damaging competitors: Halo was an important Mac title that if a cult had arisen for it on the Mac like it had on the Xbox, Mac gaming would have been common; Rare was the only thing saving Nintendo in the N64 days and it was stolen from them when Microsoft made an insane offer to the 51% shareholder of it and Nintendo were forced to sell their 49% stake.

EDIT: Halo was not a Mac exclusive.

@Game_boy: Do you realize that you can say the same, if not worse, about Sony with the PS3? They're also subsidizing it with the profits from their other divisions, and they're several billions in the hole already.

Yes, I hate PS3's tactics too, but Microsoft's are on a far larger scale (PS was profitable intermittently) and consumers suffer more (Halo/Rare acquisitions; at least Sony never did that).

Everything that Game boy said is true. Also Microsoft made a slight mistake by not purchasing Nintendo when they had the chance. They said that Sony was there competition. They also didn't exactly take the Wii seriously and believed it to be Nintendo's final nail in there coffin so to speak. Comments were made about the motion-sensing controls being the modern equivalent to the Power Glove. Well, Microsoft was right about one thing. Sony is there competition.

PS3 total consoles sold worldwide will overtake the X360 in total consoles sold by the end of the year. Windows XP is the best OS. What the hell is Linux?

Also, 360 isn't a failure. It's better than Xbox 1 at least and made ms millions! (but it won't reach wii or ps3 numbers is the simple fact.)
