Forums - Gaming Discussion - Insomniac Games Loves “Microsoft & Sony Fans Equally;” Sunset Overdrive and Resistance 3 Share Directors

The move of Insomniac Games to the Microsoft camp has quite evidently left a bitter taste on the tongue of quite a few PlayStation fans, yet the studio launched a message of reconciliation today on Twitter.

We love our Microsoft & Sony fans equally. Let’s all have a big group hug & have fun playing games : D

Community and Marketing Lead James Stevenson also explained on NeoGAF how Sunset Overdrive shares its pedigree with the previous games by the studio on PlayStation platforms, and specifically Resistance 3.

And of course, Marcus Smith (Creative Director of R3) is the Creative Director of Sunset Overdrive, and Drew Murray (Lead Designer of R3) is the Game Director for Sunset Overdrive.

As an added bonus he also mentioned that screenshots for E3 are already being sent to Xbox’s marketing department, which means that when we’ll see them in just two weeks, we’ll know that they’ll be at least from a couple weeks old build.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see if Insomniac Games will work on more games for PlayStation platforms in the future, but for now group hugs sound like a sweet idea.

I just hope they don't fuck up SO.

Keeping their games from being enjoyed by both fan bases is a strange way to show love for them.

Without a publisher (Microsoft) there wouldn't be anyone enjoying their games...

Did they mention that they asked for money from Sony and they rejected them? Cuz if so, more people should hear about this.

So their love is all about money. Whoever pitches in the most gets the most love. First Sony, then Microsoft.

They are an independent developer. As a Sony fan, I can't get mad at them for developing a game for Xbox when MS is the one fronting the bill. Sunset Overdrive wouldn't exist without MS, just like Spyro, Ratchet, and Resistance wouldn't exist without Sony. It'd be different if they were an internal studio for some 3rd party publisher and then all of a sudden "switched sides". But they're independent. Sony's just been the one throwing their money at them all this time, so most think they are a "Sony studio".

I can understand them, however, wanting to branch out so that they can own the material they make, instead of Sony owning everything they've done. If the latter had been the relationship from the jump, maybe we'd still get a Spyro game every so often that didn't suck complete balls

Don't you think it's weird that a studio with such a long history and success is still dependent on using console manufacturers as their sugar daddies? Are their games so bad that the only people who would fund them are the ones that are just out to get exclusives for their console?

Something must be horribly wrong in this industry.

pretty much this. they went for microsoft because of the money though, its as simple as that.

I love you too Insomniac. Now please make me a full fledged Ratchet for PS4.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Did they ask Ubisoft for Money?
Or, God forbid, try to make a AA game?
