All 5 Italian teams made it to the next EL round. Impressive.

Latin domination.

DC United lost first leg 5-2. I could make excuses about our CDM and GK being hurt or playing on the road or artificial surfaces, but there is no excuse.

We were out of shape with no game plan and we got punished big time. 5-2 is when excuses get thrown out and accept you were just terrible on the day. Only hope is second leg next week we salvage a measure of pride and focus on league play and group stage in the fall. Just embarrassed by such a display after a strong 2014.

Wolfsburg-Inter, Villareal-Sevilla and Fiorentina-Roma are going to be some kickass matches!

The 'financial fair play' rules showing themselves to be a completely unfair joke again.

Hull City fined for losing money. They said themselves that is due to a time when they were spending money to get out of the championship, they were merely spending money to make money later, that is one of the fundamentals of business. Yet because they wanted to better their position they've now been fined? Aboslutely disgusting!

FFP rules are anti business, anti competition, anti small clubs and serve solely to benfit the elite clubs and UEFA's corrupt pockets!

thank god for FFP.
Hull City's good position (promotion, Europa League qualification) comes at the expense of other clubs.
If every Championship club did that, all but a few would have totally wasted their money, as the amount of promotion spots is limited.

Also you seem to have forgotten that "elite" clubs have been fined as well: PSG & City

It's quite funny though, everyone would love such a system for video game publishers, especially last gen.

And it's up to Chelsea again to represent the EPL again but still the FA fucks us over,go figure.

Ummm, Chelsea aren't the only English team left. Everton are still very much in Europe, as are Man City and Arsenal (for now at least).

Ummmm, let me get this straight.Aresnal and City are going to do what they never did and over turn a first leg deficit?Ok,who knows but it is highly unlikey. Now Everton playing Young Boys was hardly anything but you're right they are still there.

But it is really difficult for any club to get promoted let alone avoid getting relegated straight back without spending some money. Some clubs do overspend which is a problem yeah, but if they aren't spending too much over or have the money in the first place then they should be able to spend that money to better themselves.

It's worth remembering that a lot of clubs don't have huge stockpiles of cash so fining them money for making a loss is just about as ridiculous as you can get. Remember when Portsmouth had their financial issues and got relegated a couple times. Well if the FFP rules were in place then they would have got a huge fine on top of their existing issues and the club most likely wouldn't even exist any more.

PSG & City only got fines because they were playing catch up to the other big clubs. The FFP rules ensure that no one else will ever be able to do that and big clubs will stay big for ever and small clubs will stay small for ever. Take Germany for example, it was hard enough to compete with Bayern Munich as it was, with these new rules it is pretty much impossible. Bayern have the revenue to just buy all the good players themselves and for anyone to actually compete with them over a prolonged period they would have to compete with them financially, either by paying their own players extra so Bayern don't poach them or by buying good players themselves. Now if a club were to do that they would just be fined in to oblivion and Bayern would just continue to dominate for ever.

But hey, if you like competitions not being at all competitive and the same team/s winning every single year then I guess FFP rules are great.

The Hull City fine is 200.000€. Quite manageable for any club playing in 1st or 2nd league. No idea when the amount is due, but selling any player would be enough to pay the fine in case they don't have it cash.
PSG and City are cheating their way to the top. If anything FFP punishes that. Unfortunately FFP isn't able to stop it.

Bayern always had much more money than any other Bundesliga club and yet they still couldn't win every year. Bayern also can't buy up all players in the league.
You know there's another possibility to get on top. Good youth academies, scouts, smart transfers, solid economics, smart contracts, building up a fanbase etc.. It's no secret that this takes longer than a few years though.

fun pic from Dortmund's victory today:

Hardly! You have to spend money to get good and then make money. That is how the world works. Every industry is like that, did Sony just show up and have the PS be a massive success? No, they had to invest a lot of money in it to get it like that.

Can you name a single club in recent years that has got to the top through the methods you mentioned and most importantly stayed there? There have been some that have got there, but it never lasts long. All their good players are quickly poached by the bigger clubs and then they start going down and have to rebuild again.

no one denies that and it's prefectly fine as long as said club isn't digging its own grave by making a huge investment without having enough other assets in backup in case anything goes wrong. Because THAT is how the world works.

As I said this is taking more than a few years, but yeah there are quite a few clubs that are within that process. Many came from 3rd league and below and have now established themselves in the 1st league. Getting even close to the top will take a few more.
Obviously it also happens that clubs who spent lots of money can't get anywhere near the top and stay at the bottom for years.

and yes it's clearly cheating. Sad to see how football gets ruined that way.

It's amazing how much Kompany has screwed over City recently.. >.>
