I've been watching the game business for 20 years, there is no console that's turned around to have good sales after this slow of a start in that time frame.
If there was to be a turn around it should have started with the $50 price drop + Zelda bundle last fall, built momenteum with Mario 3D World and Wii Party U, and then carried that momentum into this year with Wii Fit U and DKC: TF (all multi-multi-million sellers from last generation). But the Wii U has not even had one month above 100k in North America this year so far despite all that.
It's not my opinion so much as it is factual data and actual sales performance.
| TheLastStarFighter said: It seems like Wii U has been around for so long and doing poorly for even longer. But in reality it's only been a very bumpy year and half since release and the competing systems have only been on the market for around 6 months. As of today we have, in total sales: PS4: 7.7 million Wii U: 6.2 million XBOne: 4.5 million So, despite all the praise for PS4 and the doom for Wii U, the Nintendo system is only about 1.5 million units behind the market lead. There are definitely issues for Wii U, in particular declining 3rd party support, but there is also potential. The system has the "advantage" of being on the market for the longest, meaning Nintendo is streamlining costs and ramping up software production while addressing key short-comings. Knowing that many 3rd parties are not fully behind the system means that Nintendo can react and partner with willing 3rd parties for joint productions. Price cuts are now possible to move units into homes. Both DS and 3DS saw initial trepidation from the public before eventually becoming market leaders. They lead the market despite poor 3rd party support and weaker hardware when compared to the PS line. Begining with the launch of Mario Kart 8, we could be about to see the begining of a Wii U turnaround. PS4 and XBOne still have yet to show truly amazing exclusive software and many titles are seeing delays. 3rd party support is fantastic, of course, but Wii U could potentially offer a compelling alternative. At E3 we could see: -An amazing Zelda U title. -The reveal of some game-changing new IP's along the lines of Wii Sports or Brain Age. -Multiple 3rd party exclusives, perhaps titles such as Last Story 2 from Mistwalker. -Expanded details on titles with high potential such as X, B2, Smash U, HW and others. -Potential system re-designs or price cuts. It is not completely out of the realm of possibility that we could see going forward over the next year and a half, Wii pushing forward with a mature Zelda, some unique new ways of playing games that capture the mass market, a sexy new look for the system, a $249 price and mutiple other core titles such as X, Last Story, Metroid and others. It could rise to prominance and baffle those who said Nintendo needs 3rd parties and Wii U is underpowered. Could it happen? Will it? |
Do yourself a favor go to the front page and click on sales year to date. Be amazed.
If people think Vita is doomed with its 27.1% market share of handhelds, what is WiiU's 13.1% market share? super doomed?
So much necro bump worthy threads being made in the last 2 days hehe. I'm gonna enjoy this ;)
The Wii U is not competing in a vacuum. I don't know why you and other who think the system can turn around not see that. I mean damn, for every system seller that the Wii U will have, the PS4 will have 3.
The Wii U doesn't have this to move it in June, 3 days, half a million view..

These are the type games that are going to move consoles. If that game is anywhere near Fight Night level, you are talking another million seller for the PS4 and ONE in a slow month. The 3DS was able to have its way because of game selection, price reduction, strong primal region and its closest hardware competitor had no real answer and no real support in the west, thats not the case with the Wii U against the PS4 or One. Just enjoy the system for what it is and not make it about things that will only disappoint you more in the end.

Even though i agree with you, wasnt GCN (22mil) wayyyy more profitable than ps3 (82mil+)?

Technically sure, anything is possible. It's "possible" the Vita could outsell every other game platform this generation. It's still technically possible.

Basing the success of a game off of YouTube views just makes you seem even more silly.
mmmmmmaybe.
Hard to say either way, Could easily see now to the forseeable future Nintnedo trailing Sony and MS in the dirt. I remember when VGchartz had Xbox One at 4.6 million units sold, dropped from there... inaccurate numbers much?
