IT IS CAPABLE only if Nintendo build on the mk8 hype at e3 and continue that mommentuum of a HUGE hype with at least 8/10 months having a major game coming out.........especially with one in late June and one n Jully too.

oh and advertisng.......because....HYPE SELLS as seen with the ps4.

Sounds like threads in the past about PS3 and later PS Vita. There will be no magic return, and at this point in life the 3DS already had the turn in sales momentum, the WiiU is way past that point now.

I think Nintendo's problem is poor advertisment, more than anything else.

Hey, PS3 did end up redeeming itself.

It's definitely possible, but I don't think It'll happen.

I like what you say and think a lot of it may happen.

but.

1) There will be no wiiu redesign. There is no reason to, just like Wii didn't see anything really until losing GC support and then Wiimini at end of life; neither of these circumstances exist in wiiu.

2) There will be no wiiu price cut announced at E3. MK8 will have just launched and Nintendo would have announced the price cut to go along with this major game if one were immediately happening. If Nintendo does a price cut this year, it will be likely in fall. Maybe just before Smash.

3) WiiUs only chance of regaining lead and/or not ending up 3rd is if it can demonstrate a clear mass market / mass appeal game. Mk8 has some of this, but its expected. They need something new like WiiSports was to do that. Hopefully this E3 with the rumored gamepad proving game and/or NFP info, we'll finally see that, but I'm not betting on it.

I agree with most of what you are saying.  I don't think we see Wii U 2.0 at E3, nor do I think we see a price cut, but I think both are possible within the next 1.5 years.  Nintendo reacted on the fly with DS, ditching the flawed, clunky original design for DS Lite, and pushing it along with the attention-grabbing NSMB.  I can see a Wii U reskin at some point, streamlining the Gamepad and making the system stand out more from the orignal Wii.  It could happen along side the release of a ground-breaking title... the new IP that, as you said, is needed.  This could all happen in the fall along with the price cut.

But the DS had not.  While DS never did as poorly as Wii U, it was relatively much, much poorer in its first two years of life.  Sales grew exponentially.

Also the thing that often gets overlooked is that both XBOne and PS4 took pre-orders for the entire time WiiU was on the market.   Not really a fair comparison between pre-orders and actual sales but it often gets over looked that there was a whole year plus the six months since release of sales for Sony and MS.

Because PS3 didn't turn around?

It never was this bad at sales as the WiiU. And the turnaround came at massive costs for Sony. Sony invested a lot into games, marketing and services.
