On the other hand, it´s good to see other Japanese devs and series start gaining more popularity in the West, like From Software with the Souls series and Namco with the Tales of series.

Platinum needs a hit like From has found with Souls, their games have top notch action mechanics but most of them underperform commercially.

The official fan translation will be done in August so you could always get Type-0 and add the translation.

But cmon SE, stop it with your smart phone stuff.

Old school Square was so good.

Actually, the whole Japanese scenario is pretty depressing.Square, Konami and Capcom have become a sad joke compared to how they were in the 90s.How come they all seemed to really start sucking around the same time (beginning of last gen)?

A combination of game development costs going up and Japanese gamers moving more to smartphones.

Look through PS3 and 360 games that have sold more than 2 million per platform and how few IP's there actually are.

"Learn Japanese you filthy gaijins. It's the language of your gods!"

Would be their exact response.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I guess that´d explain why there have been fewer games from them on consoles, but (entering subjective territory here) why would that automatically mean the quality of the games is generally not as good as it was in previous generations?...again, I´m speaking for myself, just someone who feels that in general, 7th gen Square, Capcom and Konami games pale in comparison to previous gen games from them.

Or, even in the case of mobile...I´m not familiar with Square games on iOS/Android, but have they released any original JRPGs on mobile?..as in, not ports of old games...if they have, are those games as good as Square efforts back in the PS1 days?

What I´m getting at is, I understand that as budgets increased they started releasing fewer games, but in the process, the overall quality of the games also decreased.

It's because they've all tried to cater to the west....Which they're not very good at.

"The financial success that Square Enix had last year is mainly thanks to great sales of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Thief, and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. The 2013 net sales met a 5% increase than the previous year."

SE: Lets release more mobile games.

There was a lengthy and protracted talent drain from those companies.
