xbox is not a japanese brand, so im not expecting much in the way of support for them. And honestly saying that is nothing to be proud of. THe support is still miles behind the PS home consoles

so then my next question is, what about Sony, that is very much a Japanese company as well, but they get support out the wazoo, hell theyve been getting support from day one, even the Vita is getting love. What is it about Sony that Ninty cant get the same? I know someone will pull PS4 out the butt but that system is already getting two if not of if not the biggest games. KH3 and FF15 and i imagine once the cost to develop go down, we'll see alot of Japanese games for it, like we are seeing for PS3 now. |
I think Sony has e evolved beyond your traditional Japanese company and take bigger risk (i.e. selling hardware at a big loss, paying money to get exclusives etc..). They seem to do what Micrososft does in terms of gaming, but with a smaller budget and better. I think their diversity had a hand in that also because they already have strong distribution channels and could make themselves the brand known to others. Nintendo on the other hand stuggles because they don't buy shelf space for other products and because a high risk expensive failure for them would hurt more. I also think Nintendo have cornered themselves in that most people can't see value in a Nintendo system if it come out at say $400-$500, even if the specs were better under the cover. So they kind of stuck making cheap hardware and I honestly don't know how they can change that image in one generation.
Square is also in a different league then most japanese devs. but again they are very risk aversive. Even during the Wii days they could have ported some of the PS2 FF games to test the waters to see how big the market was (i.e. new market not the ones who migrated to PS when FF changed systems), but instead got a spin off. But I guess Wii did end up getting KH so they did support it in some way. I think they sticking with PS4 for two reasons 1. their fans are on sony systems and 2. PS4 is doign very well i the west. Hell no offense to Sony gamers, but they buy their system WAY to early with the games we see at launch. Why do they do it? Simple, the promis and confidence that Sony will deliver a great future. Nintendo on the other hand hasn't got that with the consumer, therefore people will only buy when something is out that they MUST play.
Overall it's hard to know what the real issue is, but we do know that at least Nintendo plays a part in the problem. Anyone who denies that is jsut blind.

But TBH its not like the Japanese publishers have been showering Wii U with support either. Konami, i dont think they put anything on WIiU period, Tecmo Koei is making that Zelda thing, but what were they doing most of the last year, release wise? Capcom puts out a few ports. MH, RE. Namco has been helping with Smash, but where are there games? Sega is putting out Sonic but what of the games that arent releasing on WiiU? ALiens for example. Atlus hasnt done anything. Square probably the biggest of the ones i mentioned have put out ports of old games, DQ10 not seeing release out of Japan. |
Bold 1: And Fatal Frame, which alone makes me love them. <3
Bold 2: Aliens Colonial Marines not coming to Wii U is something for which we are eternally thankful. ;)
I'm confused my the thread title. Do you mean to say "flack"? Slack gives the opposite impression, as in fans aren't too hard on western 3rd parties.

All the anime stuff goes through Bandai. Gundam; One Piece; Dragon Ball; Kamen Rider; Naruto; Jojo. I'd say they all got a level of sales that was respectable enough to be worthwhile. |
That's fair, but the bolded part is important. Those properties are huge in Japan, but (excluding Dragon Ball) are rather niche in the West, so of course Western Nintendo fans wouldn't be likely to make a big stink about these games being Sony/Xbox exclusives. And considering the quality of recent DBZ titles, I don't see any reason for Nintendo console owners to be upset about their inability to experience DBZ Kinect or Battle of Z. Same as with Colonial Marines.

Fatal Frames are good, BUT it doesnt really do us westerners any good when those games DONT get localized and with Ninty still being archaic on the whole improt thing...it honestly might as well nto exist. But screw it is a 3rd party game for WIiU even if we wont be able to play it. Matter of fact Tecmo or Ninty should get flack for not localizing
wasnt talking CM but that new game Isolation whihc isnt coming to WIi U.

Fatal Frame U will most likely get localised. Tecmo and Nintendo have both gotten much better in this regard, (see X being advertised extensively in the West already where Xenoblade almost didn't make it over) and the last one, Spirit Camera on 3DS, was localised. In all likelihood, we will be able to play it.

i disagree, i say its likely it WONT get localized. The last one wasnt and that was on a console that was MUCH more popular. If they didnt do it then, i dont see why they would now. Dont know why you brought up those other games, different situations. I WANT to be wrong about this. BUt i dont have faith in Tecmo and especially Nintendo when it comes to this, ill believe it when i see it.
