Forums - Movies & TV - I just watched the first Thor movie for the first time and is it pretty dumb?

I found it boring, to be honest.  It's like they really wanted to make it a romantic comedy, instead.  Also, the gravity of Odin exiling Thor to earth in the comics was very much lost.  Thor doesn't really have much of a personality but the point of the exile was that he learn some humility and some respect for Midgard.

Seriously, though, if they want to do an awesome Thor film, it's gotta be Beta Ray Bill.

I enjoyed the two Thor movies a lot more than anything else from the whole Avengers Assemble Phase 1 thing.

Captain America was woefully paced and incredibly boring. I actually struggled to make it through that one.

Iron Man 1 & 2 are probably objectively pretty good films, but RDJ is one of my least favourite actors of all time which made that one more difficult than it needed to be.

Thor, by comparison, was a lot of fun. Struck a good balance between light hearted and serious. Actors generally turned in pretty good performances (except for Natalie Portman who was just dreadful) and the film itself was pretty entertaining. Interesting fight scenes. Asgard was a cool setting (although not in enough of the film, admittedly). And I really enjoyed all the Norse mythology stuff that was thrown in, even if it was stretching the material a bit.

I enjoyed Thor 2 even more. That's been my favourite Marvel Cinematic Universe film so far. Though that may have had something to do with Christopher Eccleston being in it.

Oh my God, someone doesn't like Robert Downey Jr. I can't believe I'm seeing this.

Anyway, I think both Thor movies are pretty enjoyable. Personally, I've enjoyed watching every movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though I haven't seen The Winter Soldier yet.

Why did you decide to make a post about something dumb? You see something dumb, you move on...why draw attention to it...

I don't know, I just wanted to talk to people about it?

Thor is a poor movie, unfortunately. Only Iron Man 2 is worse among the Avengers movies, in my opinion.

The main problem is that Thor can't really carry a movie on his own. He's much better as a supporting character, as in The Avengers (it didn't hurt that Whedon was writing his lines).

Loki is far more interesting, layered, and conflicted. Only when he's released from prison does the sequel, Thor 2, become compelling.

I think he can carry a movie on his own if it focused more on the mythology and less about the humans.

sure that wouldn't make much sense in Avengers universe, but it would make a good movie, for example in the next movie have humans visit his world instead of him visiting their world.

A lot of people don't like him as an actor actually,  just don't want to say it because they'll be called homophobe or something.

I disagree with all those points except for the special effects - they were balls. In this films defense, though, it was released during a time when super hero movie effects were at an all time low. I really don't know what was going on back then.

Loki was awesome, though, and I thought the plot was...decent. Nothing special, but I didn't think it sucked.

That... kinda happens on Thor 2. I think the sequel is better, but be warned: it's a lot more goofier. Depending on your tastes, you may find the movie is too... "comedic"? I don't know.

RDJ is gay?

Avengers was the worst. Predictable and slightly boring.
The new Captain America is very good. The new Spiderman was enjoyable also some characters should have been developed way better tho

It was just okay I guess. The sequel was better as was Captain America 2.
