That would be awesome, but I can understand why they don't do it. It's better to use the time and resoucres on advertising that includes people who don't already have a Wii U.

yeah I love the new format they've been doing.

Better videos, better demos, possibility to actually play E3 demos... so much more content than just a live presentation.

Its also not like there is no presentation. Its just pre-recorded.

I admit the Twilight Princess reveal was something special, and that the potential for those goes away with a streamed video. Those moments are exceedingly rare, though. I'm more sad that the potential for disaster gets cut down this way: Riiiiiiidge Racer!, Miyamoto being unable to play Skyward Sword, Microsoft guy clapping by himself, Giant Enemy Crab, Duffy looking terrified at being at E3, Ravi Drums, and of course the entire Konami 2011 (Extreeeeeeeeeeeeeme!) would never happen without the magic of live conferences.

But overall, I'd say streaming a video is better for those of us who can't be there anyways.

For me those blunders are part of what E3 is though. :P 

 

I agree that this approach is better, especially as Nintendo is doing much more than just the presentation.

E3 is just one of the very few reasons living in Europe sucks, so that's why I said " sometimes"!

Let's not get things twisted though; they lost last year because their reveals were lame, not because the format was different. If last years Direct had Metroid instead of DK, a better SM3DW ad, a Zelda Wii U reveal, Star Fox, etc, nobody would have given a shit about them not having a conference. Oh, and the streaming sucked. What they seriously need to do it just release a video instead of streaming it live.

Two things though.

1. They are already renting out the NOKIA theatre for the Smash Tournament. They should air the Digital Event at the NOKIA theatre as well, so the press can all watch the event together. Then after the Digital Event, they can stay for the Smash Tournament.

2. They should release a demo for Smash on the Wii U during E3. People should be given the option to play Smash the way it's meant to be played if they have the Wii U: At home with friends. All they have to do is limit the amount of characters to 4 (Mario-Sonic-Mega Man-Villager/*Packman*) and only allow for battle on two stages. Battle Field and Final Destination. This way it is limited enough, but fun to play and people who already own a Wii U can convince their friends to play it this way.

They were set to lose last year no matter what they did. You don't beat new hardware. That's why they basically defaulted in 2012 despite the weak presentation. New hardware beats a lack thereof almost by default

(for the record, i have "wins" for Nintendo at E3's 1996, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2012). This year, the ball is up in the air. My odds are on Microsoft, though. They need to pull some big stuff to counteract early PS4 hype, and they haven't had a top show since 2009 and, yes, the Kinect reveal.

Besides, I would be much more excited if Nintendo would make a conference with annouing their usual, high quality 1st party titles and some real 3rd party support. SSB4 is a great game and all, but talk about putting all your eggs in one basket.

They are doing that. It's called Nintendo Digital Event.
