Forums - Nintendo - Let's say you now run Nintendo. How would you go abour righting the ship?

1. Advertise.
2. Sort out eshop vc console so I can play games I bought on my 3ds on my wii u and vice versa.
3. Add ds games to the VC line up for both 3ds and wii u.
4. Ensure the eshop has a new games, even if just vc games, every week without fail.
5. Include the bigger battery in the wii u's gamepad by default in all future bundles starting with the mariokart bundle.
6. Pay for some short term exclusivity, even if just for indie games, to ensure short term exclusives.
7. Buy companies to improve long term first party output. Not necessarily huge companies.
8. Release an incremental update to 3ds based on the xl but nicer with a hi def screen and second joystick. Supply patches to popular old 3ds game for it so they play in the higher resolution and have new games support both hi and low def 3ds's. Can be more expensive than any of the other 3ds's.
9. Discontinue both the Wii U and 3ds at the same time for the release of the Nintendo fusion.

Around the Network

1) Advertise and Market it as "The U" no more "Wii" holding it back.
2) Establish complete development teams in NoA and NoE.
3) Operation Rainfall II for The U and 3DS.
4) Showcase the gamepad in all possible commercials.
5) Buy small development teams to increase quality and quantity.
6) Release ONE original iOS mobile game, will be available on 3DS and The U as well.
7) Improve online, MiiVerse, NNID, and interface on The U and 3DS.
8) Maximize VC on The U. More features and more games available.
9) Scheduled Nintendo Directs every month or do.
10) Work on the next home console (Codename Ultra) to be as powerful as a PC from 2019 and release it that year along with the next handheld (Codename Fusion) which will be fully compatible with each other. Each console will have the same games released, but will also feature exclusives to entice consumers to buy both.

1. Advertisement is abysmal, definitely needs to be fixed.
2. Be much more informative about future titles - what is the point of showing this cool looking "X" game when nobody knows what it is? Where is Zelda? What about Mario Galaxy?
3. Might be more long term - Make the eShop like Steam, have an account system, but make it so that only one device can be logged into an account at a given time in order to play eShop games.
4. Family accounts for the eShop - I think my wife and kids should be able to access my 3DS content on their 3DSs.
5. Plan for a short generation - although I do think they made that decision a year ago.
6. Be MUUUUUUCH more aggressive and active with marketing.
7. Work on a handheld system that doubles as a Wii U controller, and then start marketing the crap out of Wii U and the new handheld - improve on this concep for the next generation and keep a similar interface for once.

Not the least of all, we need WAY more VC content - and content that works between consoles and is not exclusive to one system. All VC games should work on all currently supported Nintendo hardware - and one purchase should be all you need to make.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Near term: Advertise like crazy and price cut some low selling games. Have global releases and maybe get rid of region lock

Discontinue/Lifetime: I would discontinue the 3DS first, but not before 2016. Wii U until at least 2017

3rd party: With Square Enix up for grabs, I'd buy them so great RPG's and possible new ones would show up on Nintendo again. Japan sales would skyrocket.

Extra: Monthly Nintendo directs would be up for grabs, and I wouldn't focus too much on one game (e.g. DKCTF). Market them all the same, which would be great. Also, I would not ditch any IP's fully. Some spinoffs like Mario Sports, which have been lagging in sales, would be cut, but would be soon replaced by a new Mario spinoff or an older one. I really wouldn't get rid of any IP's like I said, but I would make sure some new ones would be invested in. The Wonderful 101 could've been marketed so much better. Sales would've at least been a little higher. I would make sure games like Super Smash Bros would get DLC for any past characters not included in the newest one and cut the price of some VC games. GameBoy games would only be 2.99, NES, SNES, and N64 stay the same GBA be 4.99, DS (whenever released) would be 9.99. I would get some N64 and GameCube games on the Wii U virtual console for 14.99 and get SNES on the 3DS.

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC

RIP Iwata 12/6/1959-7/11/2015

Thanks for all the great memories!

Wii U is a great console that people aren't given a proper chance to. That isn't gonna change easily. That's why if Nintendo wants to make Wii U a success, they need to encourage out of the box thinking everywhere they can put it. No safe choices at all.

I would start with a Zelda MMO

Next I would release the most popular of the core franchises, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and a few casual bombshells like Wii Fit U.

Then I would have the mario and Retro teams make new franchises and the only instruction I would give to them is "do something crazy", and "no safe choices".

I would try reaching out to microsoft and sony as well.  Tell them I wanna make a Nintendo vs Microsoft vs Sony MMO game or something similar.

If they want to make Wii U a winner they have to go far out of the box. I think Nintendo agrees with me, but it's too big of a risk for them, so they are cutting their losses this gen and just doing the bare minimum.

Nintendo should also have weekly directs to advertise the weekly release of content, as well as to talk about future content. RAMP UP THE MARKETING!!!

I'd fire that stupid Nintendo president. Damn I hate that guy.

I'd make the advertisement budget increase by 100% temporarily and focus on Wii U advertising. Let the world know the wonders of the Wii U!

0 times 2 is still 0.

I don't see much point in trying to turn things around. They appear pretty set. I would make another 2 years worth of games for each console so they can have a twilight zelda and fanservice games.

I would replace the handheld Nov 2015. 2 5-7" size tablets duct taped together. 5-10 point multitouch per qHD or less screen. 4GB RAM. NFC. Accelerometers. 2 cameras and mics. DPad and 4 buttons. 149(2GB)-199(16GB). I think they could break even or 10-20 loss if they cant find a decent mobile CPU/GPU. Wearables, NFC toys and accessories can help make up for the costs

To ensure developer support I would make sure that the console supports the most commonly used tools and libraries and that architecture isn't too exotic. Unity and Unreal are the largest for indies. See if we can drum up enough interest from publishers to get them to get us day and date with mobile games and larger IP content etc. Hopefully also having simple mobile GPU and CPU will allow easy porting.

Home grown games:
Super Mario Bros 3 pt 2 at launch in November.
Mario Golf,Tennis,Basketball, strikers, etc without mario in January. Playable with body, touch or buttons online 8-4 players, local 2-4 depending on controls.
Fitness game in Spring, Yoga games controlled with body, wearables, supplemented with diet tracking app, sleep monitoring app, fitness diary app
VC support for summer. GB, NES, SNES, GBA complete.
Mario Party style game in the fall/winter with other traditional table top adopted games and apps.
New Advance Wars

All of this would support Dual Play. The reason the system has two screens and so many cheap unobtrusive inputs is so you can always let someone in on the fun. For simpler games two people can play per screen(badlands for instance could be easily accomodated) Hopefully all will be 4-16 players online. Arcade contorls but not scary with just a dpad and buttons on 1 slab.

Those 2 years of Wii U games will be stretched to 3 years so we can have some content when we launch our next home console. If SDS takes off it would be closer to 2017 for it's replacement.
