Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Needs to Bring Back it's Official Seal of Quality

Absolutely false. Like I said, if the Wii U had excellent 3rd party support, it would still sell the same because the mindset is that the Wii U will have the worst version of those games. "What's wrong with their approach" is that they didn't build a system powerful enough to satisfy the types of consumers who buy those third party games. There's absolutly nothing they can do to change that now. Short of releasing a Wii Ui with specs more powerful that the PS4, no one is going to be buying 3rd party games on the Wii U. Look at the preorder numbers for Watch_Dogs even before the delay. They don't exist.

That's why I said it was one of the factors. Power is another. Anyway, I disagree that Watch_Dogs sales are impacted by the fact it will have the worse version alone. People who buy Watch_Dogs are the same that love AC, GTA and are hyped for Destiny and Batman: AK. These people didn't bought the Wii U because they didn't have a Wii U because these games wouldn't be there. Right now, there is nothing they can do to fix it. But damaging their relation with 3rd parties even more will only make their next console fail too. They have to fix the relation now and do the next console the way 3rd party studios want.

Sorry man, but you have to GET a steady flow of third party titles coming to your system, before you can start pulling "seal of quality" type shit.

There are two ways of thinking about this: one is that Nintendo cannot afford to do so because it would kill the last of their third party support, the other is that they've got so little to lose right now, why not implement it, and get the few partners who choose to abide used to it, and maybe start a positive trend for when Nintendo returns to a stronger position.

The only time Nintendo had third party sway was pre-PS. After that even though they had adequate power till the Wii, they were held back by their own stubborness and storage medium. With the advent of the Xbox, its to late for Nintendo to compete conventionally. If they want to stay relevant in the hardware space they need to find a new and sustainable way to expand its marketshare. Obviously, the Wii wasn't that because it hasn't helped the Wii U much at all.

Back in the day, Nintendo's seal only meant that it was an officially licenced Nintendo game, but a lot of young and naive gamers (such as myself) took it to mean that Nintendo personally made sure that it was free of most bugs and glitches, it ran fluidly, and it was a "quality" title by Nintendo's standards. Now more than ever, Nintendo needs to bring that back for the Wii U.

The requirements are simple. If you want to bring your third party game to the Wii U, your game must at least run at 1080p 30fps locked, 720p 60fps unlocked, 720p 30fps locked for open world games, or sub HD 60fps locked. No screen tearing. Virtually no bugs or glitches.

I used so say things like "I can't tell the difference between 60 and 30 fps." Now I realise that I've just been spoiled with exellent running games on Nintendo platforms. I bought AC4 for my Wii U, and it was a depressing mess. Glitches, screen tearing, slow down. I would have gladly sacrificed visual flare for a game that ran well, and I feel that many Wii U owners feel the same. I was really looking forward to Watch_Dogs for my Wii U, but if the game runs on the Wii U at all like AC4 (and I assume AC3) did, I will seriously find it difficult to justify the purchase. And considering that it's the same Ubisoft team making it, I seriously doubt it will run any better.

Nintendo seriously needs to crack down on how games are made for this platform, because right now, the only games that run up to stuff are exclusives with a few rare exceptions.

Sorry but no, Nintendo needs all the 3rd party help it can right now. Pushing away those few that still remain loyal with an articicial  "quality seal/bar" that doesnt mean anything is a bad idea.

Btw, the gaf thread you link to is outdated, Mario Kart 8 is 720p.

The reason the Seal of Quality existed is because people were making NES games without Nintendo's permission.

Do I have to make the joke?

You want Nintendo to alienate 3rd parties even more?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
