Forums - Nintendo - As it stands, the 3DS lineup for the rest of 2014 is seriously lacking

Personally I don't mind, as there are plenty of high quality 3DS and Wii U titles I don't have yet with more to come. A golden sun game would be cool though. Other than that, I don't feel that the 3DS lacks much, with exception of new IP's and the MH4.

Thank you! The problem with society is that they compare the best with the current. ex: Pokemon XY is doing great (between 11.5mil-11.7mil sold including digital...shipped at 12mil) but some compare it to the other installments which had a 150mil+ userbase to 3ds 43mil!

2013 was such a fantastic year (1), not for 3ds only but in handheld history! People complain wayyyy to much(2) while 2014 is looking like 2011 line up in terms of quality.

2014 is great for me cuz of Kirby+SSB. We also might have Monlith Soft title (they are making a 3DS game), also LoZ MM 3D is possible with hopefully a metroid. Peole judging 2014 when we are in april. (3)

Bolded 1 - agreed

Bolded 2 - not really complaining, just pointing out the difference.  A bit disappointed I would say

Bolded 3 -  I think now is a fair time to judge.  Like I said elsewhere, there was already a better lineup at this time last year, in terms of both releases and future releases.  Nintendo will undoubtedly announce some great new 3DS games at E3, and hopefully a majority will come out later in the year.  But for me, there is no chance the 3DS will reach anywhere near the same levels as last year. That is not to say it will be a bad year, just not a great one. I'm glad that you have plenty to look forward to this year on 3DS though :)

Yeah, I agree. Nintendo will most DEFINATELY not have anything big going for the last half of the year. There's no way they'll show somethings at e3, that will come out during the holidays. Nope. They've run out of ideas. What they've shown up till now, is what they've got until the last days of the 3ds life. Yes, that's it.

That is obvious, and I mentioned that in my OP.  My main points were:

1)  The lineup this year is already tracking behind what was released at this time last year

2)  Last year also had far more games already announced for later in the year than this one does

3)  Nintendo willl likely spend more time at E3 on Wii U than 3DS, and it is practically impossible to meet the quality and quantity of last year on 3DS unless they announce at least 8 or so great games all to be released later this year, which is not going to happen.

Yes, they probably wont match 2013, but, we will have to see. Didnt mean to come off to sarcastic towards you, sorry for that. i just feel like its too early to say for certain. Who knows, with a coupke huge surprises, itcould be better, with fewer titles, given the right surprises... like a metroid, for one... my point was, we wont know, untill we know, you know?.. lol

That's the game you listed I am by far most looking forward too.
tbone's list definitely shows 2013 was its best year though, with 3 games I own (Plus Bravely Default, coz PAL) and about another 3 I want.
Compare that to 2011's 2 games worth owning and 2012's 4 games.
2014 for me isn't terrible though, there's 2-3 games I will buy so far listed by tbone and at least 1 more I can garentee we will get in Theatrhythm and if Im lucky we will get an E3 announcement for another game worth buying. So thats at least on par with 2012.

wat games am i missing on 2014 list? is that Theatrhythm one of them? (US release)

Actually Theatrhythm while being out real soon in Japan still dosent have US conformation. Seeing as the original sold better in US than Japan though I expect to see it soon.

As for games you missed every list has some but none that matter except 2014's Conception 2, Tomadachi Life and possibly Sonic Boom which is dated for this year

See now, that list you made comparing year on year releases could have been made into a great thread discussion, but I don't know if that would be a great idea.

I actually felt in terms of sheer number of exclusives 3DS had the best year in 2013 forboth handheld and home console. They had so much variety from Japanese to more of their traditional games. SMT 4 really stood out for me. I'm hoping for some kind of Pokemon 2014 game, Ranger, or traditional. Also they may soon show Majora's Mask for 3DS? 2015 release, and a few others. Smash is going to be a big hit on 3DS as well from what I've seen.I expect much more solid news come E3. It's not like they are going to abandon the 3DS. Plus that Tomogachi Life got announced as well for NA and EU.

For me, I have about 36 retail 3DS and have reduced my backlog to Pokemon X, Azran Legacy, and Bravely Default. But for many there are a lot of games still to be purchased and some in their backlog. I'm definetly in the minority as a 3DS owner, as I doubt most own that many titles.

er........NO.
your list of 2014
Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Project X Zone, Etrian Odyssey IV, MH3, LoZ:ALBW, Bravely Default (EU), Animal Crossing:New Leaf, Pokemon X/Y

ETiv and PXZ aren't huge so lets cut them.

this year has:
Kirby triple deluxe, bravely default(for usa I belive-read a comment), smash bros, tomadochi life(probably as huge as AC), Yoshi new island, professor Layton vs ace attorney. I might have missed some too.

and e3 last year revealed pokemon x/y and e3 this yeat WILL have more 3ds titles .

NO WORRIES PEOPLE.

No problem

Didn't mean to be rude, its some of the replys and previous discussions from other threads tend to believe 2014 is sooooo bad. Onlyreason it looks so bad cuz 2013 had so many games including huge games come out in 1 year!!!

Thats like if i compare ever console/handheld to ps2/ds in terms of lifetime sales. yes all will look bad compared to those but in reality is nowher near!

Beside SSB is my favorite franchise of all time, even though currently Kd Icarus Uprising is my #1 game so far in the 8th gen :)

Fire Emblem+Pokemon XY+SM3DW were all fantastic as well

oh **** i knew i forgot tomodachi!!! That will be huge imo. about half of AC im going to guess. I'll add those.

OP should add them the list to the front page :)

Well the real question is whether they're just holding back on announcing stuff right now because they want to make a bigger splash at E3 this year. If E3 comes and goes and there's still not much on the horizon for 3DS then, yeah, not the best year for 3DS software. Just like Wii U had nothing at launch because they had gone into emergency overdrive to correct the 3DS' early struggles, now they may very well have shifted resources mainly to Wii U and are hoping the 3DS' very strong library/back catalogue can sustain it for a while. E3 will reveal what the truth really is. Hopefully they have some new games for BOTH systems to announce, but especially 3DS since Wii U already will have Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi, SMT X FE, Monolith Soft's "X", Zelda U, Hyrule Warriors, and Sonic Boom as games they can focus on showing.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

This E3 should have quite a few games. I understand where your coming from tho. 2014 has seen very few Nintendo releases in general. I hope the second half of the year it's better.
