None. A 50+ gb game would decimate HDDs, and devs would want to avoid that. There may be one or two near the end of the generation, but probably not.

Knack is 35GB, Killzone SF 39GB, NBA 2K14 42 GB, all launch games. 50+ GB games will happen. 1Tb console versions will come too.
Is a full install mandatory anyway? Why not run cutscenes from the blu-ray drive, or use it as a secondary source for loading data.

Full installs are currently mandatory for all games to speed up loading times and such.

And as developers get better at optimizing and condensing their games, we'll see games get close to the 50gb mark but never cross it. Compression exists for a reason. No one would want to take 10-20% of their HDD space on one game.

Never? Really? I don't see it in the near future... but never?

SKUs with bigger HDDs will come the next years, you can already change the internal HDD of the PS4 and support for external drives (the 3.5'' are cheap as hell) is already announced (for XBO, but Sony will probably follow).

Developers don't want to put in extra efforts to keep the size of their games small... if they absolutely have to, they will. But when the costs for Blu-ray-discs fall further (they already have over the last years) and more HDD space gets common in the next 2 or 3 years, they won't care to keep the size small.

I'm calling it now. Doom 4.

Those archival disks are expected to be used for non gaming and non entertainment purposes.

They will. Last gen games could have easily been more than 50gb if everything was uncompressed, but there were no games that went that route. It's even harder this generation, where installs are mandatory and HDD space is a scarce commodity. Developers will always compress the games to the best they can to keep it confined to one disc, rather than having to manufacture multiple blu-ray discs (no matter how cheap it be). SKUs with bigger HDDs may come, but even then, a 2-disc game that is around 80-100gb would instantly take up either 20% of the current HDD space available, or 10% of a 1tb HDD. That's a HUGE amount of space to be taken up by one game.

But you get better loading times using both drives, see Titanfall 360 for the most recent example. And that's with the slower DVD drive and same HDD speed. The only reason to go for full installs is to pave way for the all digital future, identical day 1 digital editions.

I don't think developers care about you not wanting to use 20% of your HDD on 1 game. GT5 used 20% from a 60GB drive last gen, that wasn't even a full install. A second disk adds costs, but working with compressed resources adds complexity. If anything the install from the blu-ray drive will be unpacked on the HDD for easy use.

Good question, apparently Thief wasn't a full install.  But this doesn't matter much though, since games install as you play so you can get rid of install data as you please.  Annoying if your digital only though.

The one with the stupidest developers/publishers.

(I also expect many users here to boycott that game and sell their console)

That was very called for, kudos.

I'm gonna say FF XV.

So you think no game will use two blurays before 2026 ?!

I went for FFXV too. Nomura said they were worried by Bluray's limits back when it was still called Versus

I wouldn't be surprised if FFXV comes on 3 disks and use it as a selling point. It wouldn't be too hard to fill that with fmv and uncompressed sound as I don't expect them to shell out for h.265 encoding or DTS HD ma licensing. Probably some old video format throwing tons of bandwidth at it to get good quality 1080p60 fmv. FF13 and KZ3 used Bink video instead of the readily available h.264 codec.

Destiny.

Gameinformer "The scope of Destiny is suitably impressive to warrant it's presumptiuve as the flag-bearer for next-generation software."

The only game on that list that may have a chance at being on two blu-ray discs is FFXV in my opinion. That game is going to be crazy, and massive, and filled with incredible details. Other than that...maybe Mgs?
