Knack is 35GB, Killzone SF 39GB, NBA 2K14 42 GB, all launch games. 50+ GB games will happen. 1Tb console versions will come too.
Is a full install mandatory anyway? Why not run cutscenes from the blu-ray drive, or use it as a secondary source for loading data.

Full installs are currently mandatory for all games to speed up loading times and such.

And as developers get better at optimizing and condensing their games, we'll see games get close to the 50gb mark but never cross it. Compression exists for a reason. No one would want to take 10-20% of their HDD space on one game.

SKUs with bigger HDDs will come the next years, you can already change the internal HDD of the PS4 and support for external drives (the 3.5'' are cheap as hell) is already announced (for XBO, but Sony will probably follow).

Developers don't want to put in extra efforts to keep the size of their games small... if they absolutely have to, they will. But when the costs for Blu-ray-discs fall further (they already have over the last years) and more HDD space gets common in the next 2 or 3 years, they won't care to keep the size small.

They will. Last gen games could have easily been more than 50gb if everything was uncompressed, but there were no games that went that route. It's even harder this generation, where installs are mandatory and HDD space is a scarce commodity. Developers will always compress the games to the best they can to keep it confined to one disc, rather than having to manufacture multiple blu-ray discs (no matter how cheap it be). SKUs with bigger HDDs may come, but even then, a 2-disc game that is around 80-100gb would instantly take up either 20% of the current HDD space available, or 10% of a 1tb HDD. That's a HUGE amount of space to be taken up by one game.
