Forums - Sony - Is the Last of Us Remastered a system seller, or just something to fill a gap in the release schedule?

I see it as more of a gap filler than a system seller...I feel like most of the people who would buy a system for TLOU already did when it was released on PS3. That being said, it could serve as a bit of a catalyst, getting some people to buy a PS4 before they otherwise would have.

both.

mostly a great filler game for the slow launch period. but there are an aweful lot of xbox 360 owners that already see the ps4 is more powerful for $100 less and selling really well. to say ps4 has infamous and TLoU when xbox only has titanfall will probably sway some of the swing voters to ps4.

I was agreeing with your post until the bolded part. Only?

i was putting my PoV into that of a non-launch day purchaser.  so what has launched in 2014 that is notable?  so far just infamous and titanfall.

Well this pretty much confirms that they won't have it on PS+ and reduces the chance it will be on PS now. It doesn't make much sense otherwise.

Exclusive-wise, I guess you're right.

Bit of both.

Can see it pushing a few people to finally jump on board with PS4, and the marketing push behind it should be somewhat good. They just need consistent releases instead of droughts. If Gen 7 upgrades are gonna be used to plug the gaps when nothing is pushing the system, then thats fine by me.

I'd say a system seller is something people wait for to buy a new system. I don't think anyone waited for this. But it will probably push a few customers over the edge.

bitch please, Octodad wants to have a word with you!!

It will help the PS4 a bit, mainly people who never owned a PS3 and are thinking what console they should buy next. If it's to fill a gap? Not sure. They've been working on it since the PS3 release and Driveclub may also release around that time. And obviously, they'll probably profit from the games' sales itself.

I wouldn't go that far. It's still $60 new, and sells for $35-40 on eBay. That's still above "Greatest Hits" price. This game is gonna hit home with PS4 owners who either didn't play it on PS3 or are 360 converts. I don't, however, see it pushing sales of the PS4 because this isn't a game people are anticipating now. It was just announced and will be out in like 3 months. Only the most hardcore enthusiasts would consider a year old game to be a "system seller" to them. I don't see anyone actually picking up a PS4 for this game. It may be something they just so happen to pick up down the line, but an essentially non-PS4 game just isn't gonna push systems.

You may need to check the prices again, amazon sells them new for 40 U$ and be sure than once this edition becomes widespread knowledge the PS3 one will become cheaper.

OT: I think is a gap filler, with a minor system selling potential.

I expect it to do well and have some nice legs getting to 2-3 million. If the Tomb Raider can do what it did I see no reason for Last of Us to not have strong sales.

That's not a valid comparison. Tomb Raider is like comparing Black Flag PS3 to Black Flag PS4. Same game, but different versions. What TLoU PS4 is doing is basically a TLoU 1.5 HD Remix. Tomb Raider was Tomb Raider with PS4 graphics, not uprezzed PS3 graphics.

Not sure how you can say that when we have not yet seen what Last of Us Remastered actually looks like yet.
