Super Mario Universe U(niverse).

Would be awesome

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

3 Mario platformers per console, released as a progression, where each title is more intimidating to play than the previous one for the neophyte. It all starts with a 2D platformer, followed by the Super Mario 2.5ishD Land/World, and ends with a 3D platformer with non-fixed camera and huge levels.

I love their games so this is great news.  If it's for Wii U, this clearly means they're not dropping the system any time soon.  I could see it very likely being for their next handheld, or a cross-system title for the handheld AND Wii U could be happening... and is almost implied.

I'd love to see the best elements of Galaxy(new theme, innovation, presentation, grand scale), 64(ground breaking with exploration) and 3DW(tight controls, classic power-ups and damage system, multiplayer) brought together in a semi-open world experience.  Add to that some new themes for levels and online multiplayer and we could see a masterpiece.  I'd love so see some Mario Kart locations as worlds too.  Can you imagine exploring the city in the background of MK8 Rainbow Road??

....still waiting for something that truly feels 'like a Mario 64 part 2'.

You and me both.

That is kind of an obvious, "no shit" sort of statement. Of course the Tokyo team is working on the next Mario game. It's been months since they were finished working on SM3DW. What would people expect them to be working on?

I PERSONALLY hope that they are NOT making a "Galaxy 3". I think it's kind of absurd that people expect that. If there had never been a Galaxy 2, people would not be clamoring for a 3. They need to stop making "Sequels" to 3D Mario games, and work on a completely fresh, new 3D Mario game. Such as, God Forbid, an epic 3D Mario where you're actually traveling around the Mushroom Kingdom/World. Something we've never really fully gotten in 3D yet. Just a thought.

But I've had enough of Space Mario, thanks.

I'd say it's time to revisit Sunshine, just with worlds that "feel" more Mario and with the FLUDD gimmick being less of a thing (perhaps replace it with more power ups that enable free movement, like the Cape and the Cat Suit, because FLUDD was very important for mobility in what made Sunshine great, just that the spraying part was more than a little gimmicky)

Big open worlds like Sunshine, but more of a mushroom kingdom feel and a greater variety of power-ups.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

What is the take away from this article? EAD Tokyo is making a new Mario game.

The part were they say (paraphrase) ...we may or may not be making the game for the Wii u- if we are making the game for the Wii U we may or may not use the game pad more??????? that delivers NO information- It is like when they say something is coming "in the future" what the heck is that supposed to mean- but people will take it and run w it, get excited as if they actually said something-

If the headline was" EAD Tokyo is making a Mario game that may be for the next home console- it may not include a game pad" it would be just as true

more empty promises about using the gamepad. we have been hearing these promises for 2 years now. regarding the mario game, i wouldnt be surprised if it were for a next gen nintendo system. 3DS is 3 years old now, WiiU is in its second year. if the game takes 3 or 4 years to make, it could be on the successor of the 3DS or WiiU.

The next Mario game will use the GamePad in a great way? That game will probably arrive on the 31st of November 2015 in that case.

Not very surprising news. It's not like their just going to be picking their noses when a game is finished.

Nintendo learning nothing I see.

You've got to quantify this or it comes off as trolling.

Nintendo are still stuck in the mind set of just throwing more Mario at something and expecting success.  That only works so much and they've done it too often in recent years and now they've worn it out.  NSMBU didn't shift WiiU consoles, Luigi U didn't shift consoles, 3DWorld didn't shift consoles...and their answer rather than "Hey lets try something NOT Mario" is "Well two Mario games and an expansion didn't work, lets try a third Mario game!".

The 'Mario Team' making a Mario game isn't exactly shocking. It's their job regardless, it's everything this particular group of people within the greater workforce employed by Nintendo do for a living. Nothing else.
