Like I said, there are a lot more Wild Cards in game development than you are acknowledging...isn't that all the more reason to announce a release window instead of a release date and avoid pissing people off?

Their best move, in that case, would be to wait to have the direct until they know when it's coming out.

...but why? what is wrong with keeping hype up and keeping people excited for Smash Bros? Why do we need an exact date to be able to enjoy seeing new characters and features of the game? I honestly don't understand this mentality. Its like people are thinking only "when will Wii U start selling better" instead of thinking about how fun Smash is going to be. Why would anyone think this is a good way to look at things? If Nintendo shows some cool newcomers and stages, I will be happy...thats what it takes for me. Isn't that the way it should be? Should people be more excited about what the game actually holds than some number that has zero effect on their overall enjoyment of that game? I don't understand! Please walk me through your thought process, it neither makes sense logically nor emotionally to me...

If Nintendo release three retail games this year, it will be because they delayed DKC:TF. And that's IF they don't delay Smash. You would expect them to be able to give a release date to one of the only two new games they are putting out in an entire year when they are a first party developer for a console.
I for one don't like seeing all the content of a game in advance to 'keep myself excited.' All that does is spend excitement that should come from the game well in advance. I'll be less excited to learn about this stuff from a video six months ahead of launch than I would be to find it organically in the game. It's a poor substitute for having more than three first-party retail games a year on a console that gets almost no third party support.

This direct is pretty clearly not for you...its for people who want more info about the game so just don't watch and all your petty problems will be solved! :D
Additionally, I'm not sure where you are pulling that "3" figure from. We do not know the line-up for the second half of the year yet and it could very well contain games such as Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi or other games that have yet to be announced (or have been announced without dates). It is not unheard of for Nintendo to announce games at E3 which come out by the end of the year. Additionally, this has nothing to do with this discussion. It is about why Nintendo should tell us the release date, not the number of games releasing by the end of the year...I have no idea why you went on that tangent. Whether or not Nintendo announces the release date now or later doesn't change the amount of games releasing this year...
Think about the questions again: Why should Nintendo tell us the release date now when it is likely to change and piss people off? Additionally, why does Nintendo need to tell us the release date of a game for us to get excited about it?
